Description of the walk

From Montignac, follow the CD65 for 10 km, along the left bank of the Vézère, to the village of Sergeac. Continue to the Route des Fleurs picnic area and its sign.

(S/E) Turn left towards the cemetery, then right just before it, following the cemetery wall to Chemin du Séchoir.

(1) Take the track on the left, then turn right to cross the valley to La Guinotte. Continue to a sharp right-hand bend leading to the farm of the same name.

(2) Leave the rural path for the marked trail, on natural ground, which climbs the hill. Arrive at the path on the ridge.

(3) Descend on the right. The path widens between the walls. At the bottom of the descent, rejoin the tarmac road and continue to the hamlet of Castel Merle.

(4) Before the buildings, leave the road and take the marked path on the left. At the various junctions, always stay on the path on the right. Cross the rocky valley and its small stream. The path continues to the left through the undergrowth to the next buildings. Reach the ridge in front of the hamlet of Chaillac.

(5) Turn right and walk a few hundred metres along the tarmac road (with a fountain and wash house on your right). Pass Chaillac and continue to the crossroads, then turn onto the Route des Chênes Verts.

(6) First turn right then left, crossing the Route de la Vézère. Continue straight ahead towards Montignac until you reach the junction with the Route de Lestrade.

(7) Turn left onto the castiné path on the Estrade plateau (an old Roman road). First turn left then right at Impasse de la Font du Pré to join the local road, Route des Coteaux. Continue on the right towards the hamlet of Les Berboules until you reach the EDF transformer.

(8) Descend to the left, following the power line along a natural path. Halfway down, a panoramic view opens up over the valley with Belcayre Castle on the river, the Côte de Jor opposite, the village of Saint-Léon at the bottom of the valley and Sergeac. Return to the Route de la Vézère (D65).

(9) Cross it and follow the road downhill for about 50 metres, then take the path on the left under the trees to return to the village. Then return along the same path you came on.

(1) Take the path on the right to reach the (S/E).

A very pleasant route.
We started at point 4 near the Castel Merle inn, which we recommend without hesitation for its warm welcome and setting.
On the other hand, there was a lot of road on this walk.
Too bad

This circular is described as easy. In our experience, it is quite difficult. It starts with a fairly steep climb of about 500 metres, then, after a few pleasant paths and numerous drystone shelters, there is about 3 km of tarmac road, ending with a dizzying, unmaintained descent under the power line for about 700 metres (very dangerous).

Very clear and easy-to-follow signage. The village of Sergeac is well worth a visit.
