Access to the hike’s car park is via Mens, Saint-Baudille and Pipet, from where you should take the D 216b to the hamlet of Les Granges. At the entrance to the hamlet, a stony path on the right leads to the Rochassac car park.
Preliminary note: Most of the route is marked with yellow signs, continuing and ending with blue markings. As always, you should follow these markers and avoid the crosses.
(S/E) Head due south and cross the Torrent de la Vanne via the first ford, then continue on to reach a second one.
(1) Then cross the Torrent de Pierre Aigue. The slope opens up and becomes steeper. You’ll reach a junction with several paths.
(2) Leave the wide path and take a narrower but equally well-marked path on the left. Continue on and, after a hairpin bend, you’ll reach another junction of paths at a slight plateau.
(3) Take the path on the left, which is still signposted. At a place called Romeyer, stay on the path on the right, which allows you to cut across the long hairpin bend. Continue the ascent, following numerous switchbacks that alternate between stony and grassy sections through woodland or meadows. You will then reach another stream at the foot of a waterfall.
(4) Cross over and finish the climb with a series of hairpin bends to reach the Cabane de Rochassac; towards the end, in the meadow, the markings turn blue, and some of the bends are marked by small cairns.
(5) Follow the route back in the opposite direction to return to the Rochassac car park (S/E).
