Description of the walk

The walk starts from the car park at the cemetery in La Celle-les-Bordes.

(S/E) After crossing the road and the river, you’ll set off along a straight path which soon runs alongside a large field on your right, climbing gently. In autumn and winter, the path can be a bit rough due to wild boars.

(1) You enter the forest and turn right, heading down towards the river to reach the Devil’s Bridge, a small stone bridge over the Aulne. This bridge is one of a number of bridges of the same name in France and across Europe, stemming from a folk legend: a man strikes a deal with the devil to have him build a bridge. The Devil agrees but demands, in return, the first soul to cross it. The bridge is built quickly, but the Devil is outwitted because the men send an animal across first.

(2) After a short break, carry on along the path and soon turn right onto the Sentier des Enclaves, which winds its way alongside the meandering Aulne.

(3) At a junction, carry on to the right, along the stream, until you come out onto the path you started on, which you then take to the left. Continue along the path until you reach the car park (S/E).
