Go to the Col du Pertus pass between Mandailles-Saint-Julien on the Jordanne side and Saint-Jacques-de-Blats on the Cère side, on the D317, and park in the pass car park.
(S/E) Head south-west and go through the gate in the fence to access the path. Follow it through alternating copses and clearings.
(1) Continue straight ahead on the main path, which is much more clearly marked. Follow this very passable path and enter the forest.
Pass a first wolf trap (on the left) that is being restored, then a second one (on the right) with a wooden guardrail.
(2) High up on a tree, a handmade sign points to the left towards a "shortcut" to a stopover lodge. Take the path on the right, which continues to climb, gently at first and then more steeply.
Continue through the undergrowth until you reach the edge of the forest, where the path becomes steeper and rockier for the last few metres.
(3) A few metres after the last trees, the path reaches a pass facing a fence. Take the path on the right and continue climbing, following the fence (on the left) to the next pass.
At this second pass, take the path on the right again and continue to the summit of Élancèze a few metres away.
(4) At the summit of Élancèze, after admiring the view, turn around and return to Col du Pertus via the same route in reverse (S/E).
