Kordel walks

There are many traces of a Roman past along the route, notably the reconstruction of a defensive wall from the late Roman period, the ‘Langmauer’, and the ‘Pützlöcher’, a mine that originally produced copper and later azurite and malachite. The trails also take you past waterfalls, to spectacular viewpoints, to Genoveva Cave and, finally, to Ramstein Castle. An exciting hike!

This walk not only offers views of magnificent rock formations in its southern section but also some regional gems, such as the ruins of the medieval Prümerburg Castle, the Westwall Museum site, the river rapids and the splendid suspension bridge spanning them, as well as the Roman villa at Holsthum.All in all, including the last two points mentioned, the walk is a good kilometre longer than the standard signposted ‘Felsenweg 5’ route.It is worth noting that the walk is mainly through woodland but, at its northern end, offers magnificent views of the rolling countryside around Holsthum. You can see quite a few orchards (apples, pears, cherries) as well as hop fields.

No work of the devil, but a fascinating creation of nature can be found in the Teufelsschlucht in the Südeifel Nature Park, not far from the border with Luxembourg. The steeply rising rock faces are up to 30 metres high, and some of them seem to glow green. The rocky landscape in and around the Teufelsschlucht is certainly mystical, with narrow, stony paths leading to the Irreler suspension bridge and the waterfalls.

You’ll start with a stunning view over the whole of Echternach and head towards and through the Wolf’s Gorge. You’ll follow the course of the little Aesbach stream, passing by the Pérekop rock on your way to the Hohlay cave and its amphitheatre. You’ll then pass through the village of Berdorf, passing spectacular rock formations such as Binzeltschluff, Predigstull and Werschrummschluff. You’ll continue through the Schnellert nature reserve and finish in Mullerthal.

From Echternach, with its basilica, abbey and pavilion, you will first follow the Sûre, the river that forms the border with Germany. You will pass imposing rock formations, alternating forests with open landscapes, meadows and beautiful views of the valley.

The Devil's Gorge was formed towards the end of the last ice age, around 10,000 years ago, following one or more rock collapses. Gorges, faults and crevasses make up the rock formations of the Ferschweiler plateau.

This trail is certainly the best known. Gorges du Loup, Perekop, Labyrinthe, Hohlay. We will make a small variation by doing it in a figure of 8 to balance out the discoveries.

The Ferschweiler plateau on the German side, the Berdorf plateau on the Luxembourg side and between them the deep Sûre Valley. This route owes its charm to the mixture of rock formations, mazes and panoramic views.

This magnificent, fairly challenging walk takes you on a journey of discovery through some of the cross-border natural beauty of the Sûre Valley and its tributaries.It’s hard to list all the interesting spots – there are so many.To name just a few: the Mandrack Pass is so narrow that an adult cannot walk through it upright whilst carrying a rucksack; the Tränenlay is at its most enchanting in winter; and Beaufort Castle is an attraction all year round.

Probably the least touristy part of the Berdorf rock formations up to Perekop, and also the wettest. Walk along paths between rocks covered with moss and ferns.

This fairly challenging hike in the Müllerthal region takes you on a journey of discovery to devilish spots on either side of the Sûre: the Devil’s Island (Teufelsinsel) on the Luxembourg side and the Devil’s Hole (Teufelsloch) on the German side.The route between Berdorf and Bollendorf passes through many well-known spots in the region, notably Casselt and the Mandrack Pass, where you’ll need to take off your rucksack to navigate the narrow passage between the rock faces.The Teufelsloch is very similar, the only difference being that here it is possible to go round the obstacle.

Trail leading through chasms, caves and crevices to viewpoints on vertiginous rocky plateaus.

This circular route connects the villages of Bech and Altrier. You start next to the old Bech railway station, discover the natural site of Bildchen in Altrier (a large oak tree over 1,000 years old) and finish at the 300-metre-long Bech Tunnel. The section between Altrier and Bech offers beautiful views of the valley.

Narrow crevices, caves and impressive rock formations are on the agenda for this hike in Luxembourg's Little Switzerland.

Running alongside shell limestone cliffs, the route takes you through the steep vineyards of the Palmberg, offering magnificent views over the Moselle valley. Pass through the Pellëmbierg nature reserve (Pellëm = boxwood). The return route through the Donverbach stream valley, with its waterfalls and ravine forest, adds variety to this walk.
