Circular route on both sides of the Sûre

Car park along the Diekirch N10 road on the Luxembourg side, near the bridge crossing the Sûre at Bollendorf.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, cross the bridge over the Sûre then turn right. Take the footpath near the tourist office. At the end of the grassy section, continue along the pavement and turn left at the^second road on your left: the narrow, steep Waldstraße. Walk uphill. Further up, ignore the road coming from the left and continue to the junction.

(1) At the junction, turn left and then take the^first road on the right. Walk uphill. Pass the last house and, after a rock with a bench, take the^first forest track on the right. Further on, ignore the^first path on your left (not shown on the map).

(2) Turn onto^{the second} path on your left. At the top, turn left again. Further on, a path rejoins from your left (not shown on the map); continue to the right. Pass the rocks. Follow the arrow for Bauchbutt or carry on straight ahead – it’s up to you, as you’ll end up back on the same path.

(3) At Artistenplatz, keep to the right. Walk past the path leading down to your left at Bildcheslay. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the forest track. Cross it and carry on straight ahead along the path opposite.

(4) Take a short detour to the right if you’d like to explore Derborg Cave. Then carry on along the path.

(5) At the fork in the road, take the path on the left. Pass under Fahnenstange and head uphill.

(6) At the crossroads, carry on straight ahead for 400 metres, ignoring the path on your left and the^first forest track on your right.

(7) Then turn right at the^second forest track on your right. 400 metres further on, turn left onto the path before the clearing ahead of you. Walk alongside a fence on your right and then past an orchard.

(8) At the junction, turn right. You’ll see a druidic menhir in the copse on your right. Carry on straight ahead; the path turns left, skirting a cultivated plot. At the road, turn left and then right. At the end of the forest track, carry on straight ahead and pass in front of the farm.

(9) Take the grassy path on your right as it bends and head down to the road. Then turn left.

(10) Take the path on your left immediately after the wire fence. Follow the winding path upwards, using the steps and passing a cave. Then carry on straight ahead. At the corner of the cultivated field, first turn left then right. Walk alongside another cultivated plot on your left and an orchard on your right until you reach the cemetery. Turn right and go down the steps to the road. Cross the road and turn left towards the car park. Then head for the right-hand corner at the far end of the car park and take the path there.

(11) At the picnic table, ignore the path coming in from your left and take the path opposite on the left. About 620 m further on, at the junction, carry straight on. Ignore the path coming in from your right and carry on. (The following instructions up to point 12 apply to the terrain but are not shown on the map.) Cross the bridge and pass the fallen tree. At the Fork in the road, turn right. Ignore the path leading down to the right and carry on straight ahead. At the junction, carry on straight ahead. At the next junction, carry on straight ahead again, then ignore the path on the left.
Caution: junction with another Felsenweg. Follow Felsenweg 3

(12) Cross the stream. Further on, take the stone steps on the left. Cross the stream bed and carry on straight ahead. Walk alongside the rocks. Ignore the path on your left.

(13) At the junction, turn right onto the wide path, head downhill and, at the junction, carry on straight ahead. Join a path (not shown on the map) and continue to the left. At the bottom, on the forest track, turn right and carry on until you reach the road. Turn left and walk carefully along the road until you reach the entrance, on your right, leading to Weilerbach Castle.

Head down towards the château, take the road on the right and go round the back of the building. Enter the garden, cross the grounds to the^second fountain and turn left towards the gate, through which you should pass. Head downhill. Go through the^second gate and continue to the right until you reach the L1 road.

(14) Cross carefully, head left and turn right onto the path leading downhill.
At the bottom, cross the footbridge over the Sûre, turn left and take the path to the left of the cycle path. Walk down alongside the river and follow it for about 400 m. Climb the metal staircase on your right. At the N10 road, cross with care and take the forest track opposite. Walk uphill until you reach a left-hand bend.

(15) Turn right onto the winding path which ends in a flight of steps. At the top, head left and turn right at the junction.

(16) At the fork in the road, turn right, then left at the next one. When you rejoin another path, continue to the left. At the wide track, turn left.

(17) 600 m further on, take the path on the left and walk past the Rammelay rocks. Then walk alongside some more rocks and ignore the path on your right that leads downhill. Ignore the next one as well and head straight up.

No signposting

(18) At the top, turn right. At the fork in the road on the left, head down the wide path for just under 500 m until you come to some steps on your right.

(19) Climb the steps on your right. After a winding flight of steps, continue along the path to the viewpoint. Don’t rush to the ladder; instead, go round the rock on the left to pass through a crevice and then reach the ladder. Follow the path to the Mandrack passage (^1st crevice: 40 cm wide). Then pass Kalekapp.

(20) Turn left and head downhill. At the junction on the left, go down the stairs. At the crossroads, go straight on. At the bottom, turn right, leave the forest and discover a superb viewpoint with a large wooden family deckchair. Cross the meadow opposite the deckchair. Head left and then take the path on the right immediately after a bench. Go down the steps, cross the road and continue down the steps opposite. Return to the car park (S/E).

This walk should be considered difficult due to the numerous steps.

Not suitable for those with claustrophobia: the Mandrack passage – the only narrow section, but impossible to bypass. First crevice: 40 cm wide.
