Parking at Berdorf cemetery, opposite the fire station and not far from the campsite at Beim Maartboesch.

(S/E) With your back to the cemetery, start by taking the road on the right.

Markings: Stylised leaf in 3 parts

Walk past the campsite and head to the end of the street.

(1) Keep to your right and go around the football pitch. At the fork, turn left. Stay on the main path, ignoring the paths on your left. Go down and up a few steps and then out of the woods.

(2) When you reach the road, turn left. Beautiful view of the Berdorf plateau. Pass the picnic area and continue to the bend.

(3) Turn left and enter the forest.

At the fork just after, turn right and descend to the Casselt viewpoint. Then go down the stairs.

(4) At the intersection, turn right. A long stretch begins until you reach a Y, where you turn right. Further on, continue along the path near the rock.

(5) When you reach the wide forest path, continue up the steps opposite. After a series of steps, continue along the path to the viewpoint. Do not rush to the ladder, but go around the rock on the left to pass through a gap and then access the ladder. Continue along the path to the Mandrack passage (first crack: 40 cm wide). Pass Kalekapp. Leave the stairs on your right to continue straight ahead and then go down the steps turning left.

(6) At the intersection, turn right.

(7) At the T-junction, turn left. Pass as close as possible to the rocks. Further on, ignore the well-marked path going uphill. Also ignore the path on the left at the fork and move away from the rock formations, then return to discover Rammeley. Continue until you reach the forest path.

(8) Keep to the right and, at the crossroads, go straight ahead.

(9) Look for the path branching off to the right and take it. A path joins you from the left; continue. A little further on, turn right. Climb a flight of steps until you reach a path, which you follow to the right.

(10) Turn left before you reach the fence. The path climbs up to run alongside cultivated fields at the edge of the forest.

(11) At the multiple junction, take the hairpin path on your left. Walk to the viewpoint overlooking the Sûre and Germany and back. When you return to the junction, continue right on the road leading out of the woods.

No markings

Pass the farm and continue straight ahead. Pass the next house and continue.

(12) At the next group of houses, turn left. Pass the picnic area and take the path on the right leading down into the forest. Turn sharply right, then left and cross the bridge over the Halsbaach.

Take the path leading downhill to follow the river. Turn left immediately after the rock, cross three bridges and continue downhill along the stream. Look out for the path leading downhill at the rock bench to see the Bildchen. Retrace your steps and continue downhill to the road.

(13) In front of the entrance to the Perekop crevice, cross over and descend to the river. Turn right and take the bridge further on. Climb the steps, pass in front of the Malakoff Tower and follow the Aesbech. Take a series of bridges, some closer together than others.

(14) At the major crossroads, climb up to the right to Hohlay. Go through the cave and continue up the stairs on the right. Cross Piteschkummer. Turn left to discover the amphitheatre formed by two caves, Breechkaul and Flombkaul. Return to the path and climb up to the intersection. Continue to the left. Then turn left to discover another Bildchen, "Zür-Mutter-Gottes". Return to the path and continue left. At the Y, turn right. Leave the woods, take the road through the fields and enter the village.

(15) Pass in front of the church and follow the signs to Beaufort on the left via Rue de Grundhof. After the bend, take the first right onto "Um Millewee". Then take the footpath on your right, "Neie Schoulwee". Ignore the path on your right and continue into the forest. Immediately turn right onto the stairs, cross the bridge and walk up to the cemetery and its car park (S/E).

Not suitable for claustrophobics: Mandrack Passage, the only narrow passage but impossible to bypass. First crack: 40 cm wide.

Very wet section, good footwear essential.

No drinking water along the route.

Benches: at the Casselt viewpoint, after the (5), at the next viewpoint, at the Mandrack Passage, at the (11) viewpoint, at Bildchen before the (13), and at Hohlay.

Rock formations: Kalekapp, Rammelay, Mandrack.

Perekop: a popular rock formation on the Berdorf–Echternach road. This colossus is split by a narrow crevasse, in which an iron ladder has been installed to provide access to the viewpoint.

Malakoff Tower: a solitary mushroom-shaped rock. It was given this name, like the "Perekop", by Dutch soldiers who were stationed in Echternach during the Dutch reign in the 19th century. The formations reminded them of strategic points in the Crimean War in which they were engaged (1853–1856).

Caves:
Hohlay: "hollow rock", this imposing cave is a two-thousand-year-old quarry. The Romans used to extract sandstone from it for their buildings. In the Middle Ages, it was used, like the Amphitheatre, as a quarry for millstones. All the mills in the Oeren monastery district, near Trier, were equipped with millstones from this site.

Flombkaul, Piteschkummer.

Breechkaul Amphitheatre: was built in 1979 in a cave dug into the rock in the Middle Ages for the extraction and manufacture of millstones.

Bildchen: place of contemplation. The first is called Beau Lys de notre Vallée (Beautiful Lily of our Valley), the second Zür-Mutter-Gottes (Mother of God of Zür).
