Île du Ramier via the footbridges from Empalot to Esquirol

This walk allows you to discover Île du Ramier, which is currently undergoing development work, via the two new footbridges. Starting from Empalot, the walk joins the Prairie des Filtres and ends at Esquirol, a pocket of wild nature hidden in the heart of the city. The Garonne River flows through it. Description of the walk

Depart from the Empalot station exit (metro line B).

(S) Take Avenue Jean Moulin towards the shops and the post office. At the end of the new red brick esplanade, Place Aline Viadieu, take Rue Maria Mombolia on the right.

(1) At the end, you will see the Anita Conti footbridge, which crosses a branch of the Garonne. Take this footbridge. At the end of the footbridge, take the stairs on the right that go down and turn right towards Allée du Professeur Camille Soula. Stay on the pavement on the right and continue to the old metal footbridge of La Poudrerie on the left. Do not change sidewalks and continue straight ahead until you cross a dead arm of the river.

(2) Turn right immediately onto the Kayak car park. Enter this park where you will find the pavilions of the old powder mill. They currently house canoe clubs. Continue along this tarmac path to the small bridge at the end.

(3) Continue, leaving the sports fields on your right. The Garonne is on your left and the Stadium is on your right before you pass under the bridge.

(4) Go under the Croix de Pierre bridge and continue straight ahead. On your right is the Alfred Nakache swimming pool.

(5) You will arrive at the entrance to Picot de Lapeyrouse Park. Head towards the blue metal structure and turn right. Cross the forecourt and continue towards the park's public toilets.

(6) Take the exit on the left onto the Robert Armandary promenade. Then turn left onto the Robert Armandary promenade towards the Robert Poujade footbridge. Take this spiral footbridge, which leads to the left bank of the Garonne.

(7) At the end, take the stairs down to the riverbank. Head north towards the city centre. Pass under the Pont Saint-Michel bridge to reach the Prairie des Filtres.

(8) In dry weather, you can walk right along the banks of the Garonne. Otherwise, follow the central tarmac path.

(9) Do not go all the way to the bridge, but exit via the stairs on the left that lead to Cours Dillon. The Château d'Eau dominates on the left and houses an art gallery. As you climb towards the Pont Neuf, the Hôtel Dieu hospital is opposite. Cross the Garonne towards the city centre to Place Esquirol (E).
