Description of the walk

Leave the lodge (S) and head north-east, then north-west, down towards Queige. The path, which is always marked withGRP® signs, crosses the D925 and leads to the village of Queige.

(1) Follow the clearly visible markings which, via the road or footpaths, lead to the hamlet of La Forclaz.

(2) Head due north then north-west through the forest. When you reach a road, turn left to reach the hamlet of Les Orseraies.

(3) Leave the road on the right, quickly change direction at a bend in the path to reach another junction.

(4). Leave theGRP® and turn right onto thePR®, walking along the right-hand side of the small Lac des Saisies. Pass in front of the Cabane Forestière and then beneath the Croix de Coste. Continue north-east towards Le Planay.

(5) Continue eastwards to reach Les Pachons.

(6) Follow the path and then a track to reach the car park of the Bissane ski lift and, on the left, the Gentianes ski lift.

(7) Descend alongside the latter ski lift to reach Les Saisies and the car park at the start (E).

Notes

This final stage largely crosses the Les Saisies ski area, but the hike does not follow the slopes.
Only the final few metres run alongside a ski lift, but on grass.
Comments on this tour: a particularly pleasant route that takes you through mountain pastures where cows reign supreme and Beaufort cheese is king. The lodges and refuges used are of excellent standard and allow for a light pack, which is much appreciated.

Worth a visit

Les Saisies: a resort made famous by Olympic champion Franck Picard and also by the renowned cross-country skiing area used for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics.
