We set off from the Tubanet Hut for this marathon stage; bad weather had set in overnight.
(S) Retracing our steps back to the Pas de l’Infernet (snow and strong winds)
(1) Descend down the centre of the slope, keeping the chalet we’d seen the day before on our right. Head into a clearly marked valley which takes us straight to the resort car park. Take the small path opposite (signposted) and continue along the cross-country ski trails towards the Col de la Baume.
(2) (I got a bit confused and ended up adding at least 30 minutes to the walk) then head towards the Lapin Blanc or something like that.
(3) Shortly afterwards, pass the Cabane de Crobache (open), continue towards Col de Carri until you reach the L’Estouble viewpoint (signposted); a path branches off to the right (hard to see in the snow), running level through the clearing at first, then descending steeply and becoming more obvious.
Leave the woods and continue downhill through the boxwood; the path winds around numerous bends but remains relatively easy to follow.
You’ll reach a road at a hairpin bend; carry on past the bend and head straight down to the Ferme des Reveilles.
(4) The next section is clearly visible directly opposite.
Take the well-marked path towards Saint Agnan (signposted) and arrive at Pierre Blanc.
(5) Head down through the forest towards Saint Agnan, reaching the car park at the north-eastern entrance to Saint Agnan (mini-market)
(6) Head down towards the sewage treatment works. Walk alongside the Vernaison for a short while and, after the small bridge, turn right towards the plateau.
After about a hundred metres, turn right again (sign) and take the path which climbs steeply for about an hour until you reach a forest track at a hairpin bend.
(7) Continue climbing along the track, keeping an eye on your GPS or map as the Cabane des Bachassons (E), situated below, is almost invisible from the track.
It is a very rustic hut (in summer, the dormice make a right racket all night long).
