From Lachtelweiher, a circular route that passes via the summits of the Baerenkopf and the Sudel

Park in the car park at Lachtelweiher.

(S/E) From the car park, walk a few metres to the road, then take the signposted path to Lochberg.

(1) Turn right (marked with a Blue Rectangle and a Blue Ring) and head towards the Lochberg farmhouse inn.

(2) Walk past the farmhouse inn and continue uphill towards Fennematt and Baerenkopf for about 300 m until you reach a fork.

(3) Turn left and climb towards the edge of the forest to reach 
GR®5 at a junction of paths and tracks at the Col du Lochberg.

(4) At the statue of the Virgin Mary, turn left onto the^GR®5(marked with a Red Rectangle and Blue Ring). Continue along this route to the CAF chalet, below the Baerenkopf.

(5) Head to the summit before descending to a fork in the path.

(6) Turn left, heading east towards Sudel and Masevaux, and arrive at a viewpoint (at Roche Marchal, altitude 1020m).

(7) Continue due east to the Neuberg shelter.

(8) Continue along the marked path until you reach a junction of marked trails.

(9) Turn left, heading due east, to reach the summit of Sudel at an elevation of 915 metres.

(10) Head left towards Masevaux (marked with a Red Rectangle,^GR®5, and a Yellow Rectangle,^GR®531). You will eventually reach the junction with the forest track.

(11) For those who do not wish to pass by this shelter, turn left straight away onto the forest track for about 100 metres.
- Otherwise, head right (Blue Ring markings) towards the pleasant Oberen Grambaechlé shelter. Soon after, ignore a marked path on the right and continue for about 70 m until you reach another fork.

(12) Turn right, south-east, to reach the Oberen Grambaechlé shelter, about 80 m away.

(13) Turn back for 150 m until you reach the junction for the alternative route (optional).

(11) Continue straight ahead for 100 m until you reach the start of a path on the right.

(14) Leave the forest track and take the path on the right which descends (marked with a Blue Ring). Return to a forest track and follow it to the left for 50 m until you reach a four-way junction.

(15) Head up the path on the left (marked with a Blue Rectangle,^GR®531) to reach another crossroads.

(16) Take the signposted path on the left, which heads north and leads to the Bruckenwald farmhouse inn.

(17) Continue for about 50 m along the farm access road and look for a path on the left.

(18) Leave the farm access road and head up into the pasture,^GR®531, marked with a Blue Rectangle. Much further on, you’ll come to a five-way junction at an elevation of 791 metres.

(19) Continue straight on towards Lochberg. Walk along the right-hand side of the Lachtelweiher pond and head for the car park at Lachtelweiher (S/E).

In the immediate vicinity of the route are the Lochberg and Bruckenwald farm inns, as well as two shelters at Neuberg and Oberen Grambaechle.

There is a chalet belonging to the Club Alpin de France below the summit of the Baerenkopf.

In the section between the Lochberg Pass shrine and the Sudel, the^GR®5route follows the former border between France and Germany from 1871 until the^First World War and is marked by old stone walls and, at regular intervals, by numbered boundary markers stamped with an ‘F’ on the French side and a ‘D’ on the German side.
