From Reclinghem to Mont d'Erny

Three lovely climbs and a long stroll across the plateau make for a walk surrounded by nature. A very hilly first section, followed by a long stretch along the heights before descending to Reclinghem with magnificent views. The icing on the cake is an optional circular loop I suggest, which brings the total elevation gain to over 300 m.

Description of the walk

In Reclinghem, Rue de Dohem, there are a few parking spaces around the bus shelter.

(S/E) Join the main street (bus shelter on the left) and follow it to the right. Ignore the first left and take the second one.

(1) Follow this street (Rue Principale). Just before reaching the D92, at a left-hand bend, take the path opposite. It joins another path which you follow to the right to reach a road.

(2) Follow it to the left. After 300 m, take the road on the right towards Lillette. After a right-angle bend to the right, reach a junction.

(3) Turn left. At the T-junction, turn right and reach a crossroads.

(4) Continue straight on along the ascending path leading to the summit of Noir Mont.

(5) At the top, the path turns left, then left again. Pass a path coming from the right and reach a fork.

(6) Turn right and head down towards Coyecques. Join a small road at a place called Crocq

(7) Follow it to the right. At the T-junction, turn left and you will immediately reach a crossroads.

(8) Take the second street (Rue d'Erny) on the right, to the right of the oratory. Walk for about 500 m and find a path on the right.

(9) Follow this uphill path until you reach the edge of the woods. Continue straight on along a path through the woods until you reach the D158E1. Follow it to the left for about a hundred metres.

(10) Turn left onto the wide path to go past Mont Leuret and continue downhill to a wood.

(11) Take the path on the right and climb up to a wind turbine.

(12) Follow the wide path on the right which joins a road (D158E1). Follow it for about a hundred metres to the right to find a path that winds sharply to the left.

(13) Follow this path along the ridge through the fields until you reach a T-junction.

(14) Turn right (south-west). Stay on this path, which is initially very good but then becomes a little more difficult, until you reach a road (D158).

(15) Cross with care, continue straight ahead, still heading south-west, and, ignoring the turnings to the left, reach a small road.

(16) Follow it to the left, pass a first track on the right and reach a second one.

(17) Turn onto this path heading due south and, about 1 km further on, you’ll find a footpath on the right

(18) Follow this path to a T-junction. (see practical information)

(19) Turn right and you’ll immediately come to a fork. Take the right-hand fork, staying on the ridge. 400 m further on, just before a wind turbine, you’ll find a path dropping down to the left.

(20) Follow this path, which starts with a steep descent (but what a view!). You’ll reach the first houses in Reclinghem. Continue straight on, passing in front of the church, until you reach Rue de Dohem. The car park is just on the left (S/E).

Notes

Route modified in April 2026: slightly shorter and less tarmac!

This walk becomes more challenging in wet weather.

Make sure you wear suitable footwear.

At (19), you can add a circular loop of about 3 km with a steep climb. Head left and join the D92. Follow it for about 100 metres to the left, then take the wide path on the right. 200 metres further on, just before a wind turbine, turn right (GR®) onto the wide path, which is difficult and steeply downhill over stones. After a good kilometre, turn right onto thefirst path. At the junction, turn left up a slight incline and join a small road. Follow it to the right and at the first fork, turn left (onto tarmac). At the second fork, turn right to join the D92. Follow it to the right (take care!) and turn onto the second path on the left (signpost arrow). Climb up to reach a wide path at (20). Then turn left to rejoin the original route.
