From Marsanne to the Col du Devès via the wind farm and the Pierre Sanglante

A route mainly following idyllic forest tracks and paths that offer lovely views over the Andrans plain. Starting from Marsanne, the route follows the Sentier des Fileuses to the Col de la Grande Limite, then heads towards the wind farm and passes by the Pierre Sanglante. It continues along the ridge to the Col du Devès and a magnificent viewpoint located at the paragliding launch site. A short loop around this plateau through wild woodland, then back to Marsanne via a balcony trail.

Description of the route

Start from the car park at the exit of the village of Marsanne, Chemin de Fresneau, alongside the D57, heading towards Mirmande.

(S/E) Continue on the D57 until the hairpin bend to the right.

(1) Leave the tarmac and take the track on the left, then the Sentier des Fileuses on the right, at the entrance to the hunting lodge grounds. Follow this path to the Col de la Grande Limite car park.

(2) Cross the D57 and enter the Marsanne Communal Forest. Follow the track immediately to the right which crosses the tree-top adventure park, take a left-hand bend then keep right at the three-way junction that follows. Head straight on until you reach the tarmac track and follow it uphill to the left. Cross the wind farm (due for renewal in May 2026) and arrive at a fork after passing a left-hand bend at the last wind turbine.

(3) Turn right and head downhill to the junction (Coste Herbouse signpost) at the bottom of the valley.

(4) Turn right uphill. Ignore a side track to the right and take a hairpin bend to the left, then reach the fork at the top of the hill.

(5) Continue left and head straight on to the junction at the Col de la Pierre Sanglante.

(6) Take the path on the left and you’ll soon reach the Pierre Sanglante. Then continue downhill and, at the road, turn right. Ignore a track on the right and head for the next one.

(7) Continue along the road to reach the entrance to the wind farm (closed to the public).

(8) Continue along the road and reach the next track on the left, a few metres past a junction.

(9) Follow this track until you reach a left-hand bend with a path branching off to the right (marked by a signpost for Les Coquilles) which leads into the woods.

(10) Take this path, which tends to narrow, and head to the next fork.

(11) Turn right onto the slightly stony path and follow it to a road (Col de Tartaiguille).

(12) Head along the track opposite, keep right at the next fork and join the road at Col du Devès.

(13) Continue along the track opposite until you reach the second three-way junction.

(14) Turn right and climb gradually to the fork, at a clearing, situated at the top of the climb.

(15) Turn right and follow the path, which narrows, to the paragliding launch site. Continue along this grassy section almost to the end.

(16) After enjoying the view, return to the previous fork.

(17) Take the path on the right. This turns left, then follows the contour line alongside fences and arrives at a junction, situated just after a huge gully that may be filled with water (you can take the path on the left just before this).

(16) Turn left and you’ll soon reach a multi-way junction.

(18) Take the second path on the right, almost directly opposite, and follow this small, picturesque path straight ahead until you rejoin the route you have already taken.

(14) Continue straight ahead, and follow the route back in the opposite direction to the outward journey. Pass the Col du Devès and join the next road (Col de Tartaiguille).

(12) To avoid the stony path taken on the way there, follow the road to the left then turn right at the next junction and rejoin the route you have already taken.

(9) Continue left until you reach the next track on the left.

(7) Take this track and head for the Col de la Pierre Sanglante.

(6) Turn left and follow the track to a four-way junction (Coste Chaude signpost).

(19) Continue straight ahead, downhill, and follow this path along the ridge, enjoying the beautiful views, until you reach the road.

(20) Take the path downhill to the left and arrive at the Prieuré Saint-Félix. Continue downhill, taking the few steps on foot, and reach a small street. Follow it to the right, cross the D57 and continue straight ahead towards Notre-Dame de Fresneau until you reach it.

(21) After enjoying the peace and quiet of the spot, continue down the road to reach the end of the Chemin de Fresneau (S/E).

Notes

Since autumn 2025 and for a planned duration of one year, between (2) and (3), the wind farm is undergoing renewal. Access to this area may be temporarily restricted. From the Col de la Grande Limite, you can take the footpath on the right a little further on or, depending on the progress of the works, the track on the right after the fourth wind turbine, then turn onto the path on the left.

(8) When I visited, the barrier at the second wind farm was open; it is possible to walk around this farm, which offers beautiful views of the Vercors. Allow for an extra 2 km with a slight elevation gain. It is best to walk in a clockwise direction.

(13) You can climb directly up to the paragliding launch site by taking the path immediately to the right after crossing the road. A steep, stony section of about fifty metres is difficult; you’ll need to walk your bike.

From (14) to (18), the route is almost flat and follows small, picturesque paths.

From (6) to (20), the balcony path offers beautiful views over the Andrans plain.

(21) The site of Notre-Dame de Fresneau is a peaceful spot with a miraculous spring.

Route completed in May 2026 on an e-MTB.
