Start at the belfry of the old village of Marsanne at the end of Rue du Comte de Poitiers, setting off from the Town Hall.
(S/E) Take the street that passes under the belfry to reach a hairpin bend on the left.
(1) Follow the Mirmande road to the right until the first bend.
(2) At the hairpin bend, take the track on the left, the Sente des Fileuses, and reach the start of a path on the right, a few metres before the hunting lodge. Take this path and climb up to the Col de la Grande Limite.
(3) At the pass, stay alongside the road without crossing it. The Sente des Fileuses continues on the other side of the car park and descends into the woods.
(4) As you emerge from the woods, the path veers slightly to the right and remains in open country until it reaches the road.
(5) Immediately take a path that cuts across a bend in the road, then climb up a wide track through the forest to the ridge. Ignore the side paths branching off to the right or left.
(6) Descend along the ridge and arrive at a fork beneath the high-voltage power line.
(7) First turn right then left and continue downhill to the road from Mirmande to Grâne. Check your brakes!
(8) Take the road on the left at the four-way junction and continue straight on until you reach a three-way junction.
(9) Turn left and head towards Mirmande. At the ‘No Entry’ sign, follow the narrow lane that climbs to the left. Head up through the village to the church and cemetery at the top. Feel free to stop for a break to visit them, and make use of the water point in the village.
(10) From the car park on your left, continue a few metres along the road then quickly turn off onto the path on the left which runs alongside the road at the start (DFCI track). You’ll reach a junction of tracks.
(11) Continue to the right along the flattest track and follow a long, stony but easy path to reach the Col de Papillère. To do this, pass under a high-voltage power line and keep left at every fork.
(12) At the Col de Papillère, turn right then climb up to the right along a steep little path to the Haut Fayard, following mountain bike trail no. 9.
(13) At Haut Fayard, head down to Fresneau on the right along a wide track.
(14) At the next three-way junction, at Creux des Alexis, continue along the middle branch.
(15) At the next junction, leave the valley floor by veering left, then continue along the mountainside, making a wide, circular loop via the Serre de Paruel.
(16) Just before the bottom of the valley, turn right and look for the start of a path on the left in the embankment of the track.
(17) Take this path and head towards Notre-Dame-de-Fresneau.
(18) Continue along the road, then retrace your steps along the same route as on the way out until you reach the belfry of the old village (S/E).
