Description of the route

From Bourdeaux, take the D538 towards Saou. Park in the car park by the village school.

Mountain bike route no. 2

(S/E) From Saou, head straight on the D136 towards the village exit. Take the first road on the right, then right again, and pass in front of the Château d’Eurre.

(1) Turn left onto Route du Roc to reach Chantebise, ignoring the junction.

(2) Follow the track opposite to reach a junction.

(3) At this junction, turn right. Pass Pas de Lestang and come out onto the D70. Turn left and head for Le Pertuis.

(4) Follow the road to the right, then turn left onto the greenway. Follow it, crossing the Vèbre, until you reach the wide track. Turn left to reach Les Abeilles.

(5) Follow the path to the right to rejoin the track. Continue left, follow the Virage de Raillon, and pass the ruins of the farm of the same name. Stay on the track until you reach the Chemin Muletier, the second path on the right (elevation 651m).

(6) Turn sharply right. Take care, as the descent is technical and busy. You’ll come out onto the next track, near the Auberge des Dauphins.

(7) Turn left and follow the track. Further on, turn right at the ford, then right again. Continue straight on until you reach the signpost for the Ancienne Route Touristique Maurice Burrus (elevation 485m).

(8) Turn right towards Les Clos. Approach a bend (elevation 572). Turn right to begin a lovely descent to the Pont de Pézillet.

(9) Cross the road and the car park to follow the path to Le Pertuis. Turn right onto the road.

(4) Leave the track you took at the start and cross the bridge. Turn left onto the road (D136), then left again at the campsite, and rejoin the track you took at the start.

(3) Return to the Château d’Eurre crossroads by following the route in reverse.

(1) Follow the small road from the old ball bearing factory, then turn right onto Rue de l'Oume, then right again to return to the car park (S/E).

A lovely little walk; we did it with a group of 24 people and had no trouble at all.

We did this route on foot because, whilst on holiday in the area, we wanted to explore the Saoû Forest; we did hesitate a bit before tackling the 3 peaks...
In short: a lovely walk, despite the route being clearly designed for cyclists

A really great ride! It had everything: the coolness of the woodland
Technical descents (I walked part of one as it was too dangerous for me), single tracks through the woods, wider paths. Stream crossings. Perfect for a Saturday morning.
Beautiful scenery – I love the Saou Forest!
