From the Maison des Ailleurs to the Château des Fées in Charleville-Mézières

Park in the Rimbaud Museum car park.

(S/E) Cross the Meuse via the Passerelle du Mont-Olympe footbridge to reach Rue des Paquis.

(1) Turn right and continue along the path overlooking the street below. Continue until you reach a bridge, then continue on to a large crossroads.

(2) Take the street on the left, then left again onto Rue des Rosiers. Continue straight ahead, and at^{the second} crossroads turn right onto Rue des Hortensias, then left onto Rue Roland Lambert. Continue until the road curves to the right and follow Rue des Chalets. Stay on this road until you reach the Meuse.

(3) Follow it downstream on the right until you reach an old barrier and a change in the type of road. Turn right, continue to the street and turn left. Continue to the monastery and turn left to return to the Meuse. Turn right and you will reach the bridge. Cross it on the left to reach Montcy-Notre-Dame.

(4) Turn left to go up the Meuse to the dam, following the river. Please note that the path can sometimes narrow due to river erosion. At the dam, go down the steps and stay as close to the river as possible.
Please note: the tarmac road next to the dam that leads back up to the road is a private road and should not be used. After the dam, the path leads to a fairly busy road.

(5) Take care when crossing. Turn right to go up to the crossroads where there is a chip shop and turn left towards Le Waridon. At the^first house on the left in the village, you will see a gate and a staircase on the right. The steps lead to a path that takes you to the ruins of an old blast furnace. Return to the previous crossroads, turn right and head towards Maison Saint-Jean.

(6) Turn left towards the village and continue to the end of the road. Turn left onto the footpath, cross the Ruisseau du Warne stream and walk up to the Culbute housing estate. You will reach the D1 crossroads.

(7) Take care when crossing the road and continue straight ahead, veering slightly to the right to follow a path that leads into the housing estate. Follow this path and continue until you reach a larger road, then turn right until you come to a footpath. Take this path to the left. Then continue straight ahead until you return to a road.

(8) Follow it to the left and at the next large crossroads, continue straight ahead until the road curves to the right and reaches some steps. Take the stairs and you will arrive at a roundabout marking the entrance to the housing estate. In the centre of the roundabout are the remains of an old estate that used to stand there. Turn left and go downhill to a large roundabout. On the way, you will pass Château Renaudin, which is open to visitors, and Bélair Hospital. Continue on to another roundabout.

(9) Take the street on the left and continue until you reach an old-style church, although it is actually quite recent. Here, cross the road and turn right twice towards a road on the hillside, follow it until you reach a larger road. Follow it to the left to find a large roundabout further on.

(10) Turn right, cross two streets and continue straight ahead until you reach a block of flats. Turn left until you reach the entrance to a nursing home, then turn right and walk along the garages and buildings.

(11) Take the path on the left that starts before a garage and leads to a staircase and a railing. Follow the path to cross the stream until you reach a larger road. Go down towards the Meuse. Turn left until you reach Place des Droits de l'Homme and arrive in the Moulinet district.

(12) Before reaching Place des Droits de l'Homme, you will see some steps slightly off to the side. Climb these steps until you reach Rue Neuve du Moulinet. Continue straight ahead and turn left to enter Square Jules Cardot. Here you will find an aviary, old greenhouses and a viewpoint. Exit on the other side of the square.

(13) Walk down towards Place des Droits de l'Homme and turn right. Not far away is the recently renovated former École Jean-Baptiste Clément, which is worth a visit: to get there, turn right as you leave the square, cross the road and climb the steps. Alternatively, simply follow the Meuse to return to the Rimbaud Museum car park (S/E).

There may be some dirt tracks and brambles on the way up to the dam. Charleville Mezieres station is nearby. There is a car park on Avenue Gustave Gailly or near the campsite.
