No designated car park. Park along the pavement around Falmagne Church.
(S/E) With the church on your left, walk up Avenue de la Restauration. At the Fork in the road, turn right. Walk past the cemetery.
(1) At the chapel, turn left onto a stony track; right at the start of this track, you’ll be treated to a 360° view of the Namur countryside; head diagonally to the right of the copse. The track becomes a narrow path cut into rocky ground. At the junction with a forest track, turn left. This section can be very muddy depending on the weather conditions. Further down, look out for the footbridge on your left, which will allow you to cross the stream without getting your feet wet.
(2) Follow the tarmac road to the left.
(3) After the house and just before the bridge, at a place called ‘Fond de Vesse’, take the forest track on your right. Walk alongside the stream. At the Fork in the road, take the path on the right and, at the next Fork in the road, the path on the left. Wade across the stream. Continue along the path to the right, which may also be very muddy depending on the weather. The path becomes rocky and leads to a tarmac road.
(4) Turn left. The River Lesse flows on your right. Just before the railway bridge, take the path on the right which climbs towards the tracks. When you reach the crossing near the tracks, you can admire, directly in front of you, the Aiguilles de Chaleux, rocks rising up from amongst the trees. Walk alongside the tracks, using the designated safe crossing, and take the path immediately on your right at the end of the bridge. Ignore the steps leading off to your left. At the next junction, turn left. Walk round the back of a property and head back up onto the road.
Turn left to visit the Puits des Vaux.
(5) If you’d like to explore Furfooz Park, continue along the road to the park entrance further up (at the end of your visit to the park, you’ll come back onto this path); otherwise, retrace your steps.
Carry on along the road after passing the path you arrived on. Then ignore the path coming from your right and carry on straight ahead.
(6) Walk past the refreshment kiosk and continue along the path running as close as possible to the River Lesse. The paths branching off to your left form part of the Furfooz Park trail. After the barriers, continue along the path to the right. It leads onto a wider track, which you take to the right. Shortly after joining this track, look to your left so as not to miss the pedestrian tunnel (not as big or as wide as a vehicle tunnel) passing under the railway line. (If you reach Gendron station, you’ve gone too far!)
(7) Go through it and follow the path uphill until you emerge from the forest onto a wide track. Turn left; you’re back on the hillside.
(8) At the next junction, continue along the path to the right. Another path joins yours; carry on. Then take the path leading downhill to the left; this becomes a footpath by the house and goes round it. At the end of this path, you’ll arrive in the centre of the village of Furfooz; turn right.
(9) At the mini roundabout, turn left and immediately take the left-hand dead-end road, Rue des Aiguilles de Chaleux. Further on, the road surface changes. At the Fork in the road to the left, enjoy the view over the hamlet of Chaleux and the ‘aiguilles’. Carry on along the path.
(10) At the Fork in the road, if you’d like to enjoy a stunning view from the top of one of the ‘aiguilles’, turn left, then left again, to reach the path leading above the ‘aiguilles’. Then retrace your steps. Turn left onto the path marked with theGR®® signpost. Walk down to the banks of the Lesse and turn left.
(11) Pass under the bridge, then head straight up the path on your left, which takes you up to the railway tracks. Take the safe crossing alongside the tracks to cross the Lesse. Follow the forest track passing under the bridge. Soon, you’ll walk alongside a meadow and catch sight of Walzin Castle on its rocky outcrop.
(12) At the crossroads, turn left. Cross over the railway line, continue along this forest track until you gradually emerge from the woods, and walk alongside the meadows. The forest track turns into a farm track and then, at the crossroads, becomes a road.
(13) Head slightly to the left and follow the road uphill. Then turn right. Enter Falmagne and head towards the church (S/E).
