Parking: Place Bodart in front of the school in Falmignoul.
(S/E) With your back to the N95, with the school on your left, head towards the willow tree. Take the small bridge. Cross the road carefully and go up the hill opposite. Then turn left towards the church (Rue des Crétias). Ignore the roads coming from the right or left and go up the street to the chapel.
(1) Turn left, then left again at the first intersection and right at the next one. Walk along cultivated fields and meadows. Ignore the road coming from the left and enter the forest further on until you reach another path.
(2) Follow it to the left. Careful descent.
(3) At the bottom, turn right and descend, keeping the stream on your left. Fork the stream. Further down, ignore the path on your left and fork the stream asecond time. Continue downhill. The path coming from the left will take you to the foot of the waterfalls if you want to see them up close. Then retrace your steps to finish the descent to the banks of the Meuse.
(4) Turn right and continue for 400 m.
(5) Turn onto the path on your right. Be careful and listen for the sound of the stream, as the vegetation may hide both the start of the path and the stream itself. The trampled grass around the entrance can also be a good indication. Follow this very wild and steep path. At the top, turn left. There are a series of difficult ascents and descents. At the fork, turn left to reach a wider path.
(6) Take it to the left. At the next fork, turn right and continue downhill towards the Meuse. Turn right and follow it to the fence around the meadow.
(7) Before the fence, turn right and follow the barbed wire to the corner of the meadow. There, in the forest, you will see the difficult path that climbs up to the ruins of Château Thierry. At the top, when you reach another path, turn left. The ruins will come into view a little further on. Climb up between the ruins to reach the upper part of the castle. On the upper path, turn right. Follow the meadow on your left and follow theGR® trail so as not to miss the viewpoints. A first viewpoint over the Meuse river can be seen on your right, then asecond one, ending with the Drapeau viewpoint, where you have to make a short return trip.
(8) Continue along the path, still following the meadow, until you reach a wider path.
(9) Turn left and leave the woods. Climb up between the meadows until you reach the farm track.
(10) Turn right. At the next crossroads, turn left to arrive in front of the chapel.
(1) Turn right. Go back down to the car park (S/E) via the same route you took on the way there.
After the climb, however, the trail returns to normal, and it wouldn't take much to keep it in good condition...
