Description of the walk

(S) Leave the campsite heading towards Camps-sur-Agly, following the river along its right bank. You’ll come to a junction of footpaths and tracks.

(1) Take the path on the left to reach the ruined sheepfold at La Cayrolle. Continue south-west then north-west to reach the path leading to the Mondy sheepfold; this is a variant of the Cathar Trail or theGR®36.

(2) Take this track to the right, away from the sheepfold, to reach Camps-sur-l’Agly
Head down to this village, walk through it, then follow the track to the La Bastide horse-riding lodge.

(3) Stay on this path. You’ll reach a reservoir; at the next junction, continue to the right. Pass through the hamlet of Les Patressis. Continue north-west to reach the Col de Linas.

(4) Take the path on the left towards Pech du Bugarach.
Begin the ascent. This consists of three sections:
- the first: an approach climb through pastures and woodland, with some good flat sections where you can catch your breath,
- the second: a steeper approach to the first foothills,
- and finally, the third, which follows a path to reach the summit.

(5) Begin the descent, staying on theGR®36, known as the ‘Diverticule’. Reach a crossroads of paths leading towards the D45 road.

(6) Keep left on theGR® to reach the ruined sheepfold at La Couillade. Here, join the path shared bythe GR®36and theGRP® Tour de Fenouillèdes.

(7) Turn left onto this path and follow it until you reach the D9, north of Caudiés-de-Fenouillèdes.

(8) Turn left onto the road to return to the starting point of this route (E)

This route allowed us to take a different route from the Cathar trail and discover the Pech and its window.
THANK YOU for these routes. Well done, Visorando.

The route taken in the opposite direction. The climb up to Le Pech from this side is challenging. Beautiful views

A very windy day. The scenery is magnificent and even more appealing than in the first part of the walk. We took a wrong turn after the village of Camps. We did indeed walk through the village and followed the road towards La Bastide. We saw the sign for the Col de Linas but didn’t reach the hamlet of Les Patressis. We left the road too early and headed towards Péchines. The view from the pass is magnificent and we have no regrets, as the wind was blowing very strongly and put us off going as far as Pech de Bugarach. We then easily found our way back onto the path to finish our walk as described in the guide. There are lots of paths and the signposting isn’t always clear along the way, so you absolutely must take a map with you. It’s essential!
