Be careful with the water! Some mountainous areas are very arid and livestock grazing may render the water unfit for consumption. Make sure you stock up on supplies only in the villages and carry sufficient quantities for the ascents, which can sometimes be quite steep.
Beware of the sun and wind!
Make sure you’re well-shod, with a pair of high-top or mid-top boots. The descents are particularly challenging from the summit of Bugarach and on the way down to Caudiès.
Please note: on thefirst stage, the Trounère footbridge at (4) has been destroyed; you must descend to St-Paul-de-Fenouillet on the right bank of the Agly and then climb back up via the left bank along the GRP®®. Hiking in the Aude
