Description of the walk

Park at the top of the village of Ceillac, in the neighbourhood known as Le Queyras at the end of the road.

(S/E) Turn right onto the wide track following theGR®58, marked with red and white signs. You will soon reach the end of this track, where you turn right onto the path. From there, via a continuous series of hairpin bends, you reach the edge of the forest and a plateau. You will come to a junction of two paths.

(1) Here, the Queyras Regional Nature Park has re-routed the GR®. Turn left and continue along this remarkable route to reach the Col de Bramousse.

(2) Leave theGR® here and start a steep climb to the right, which becomes easier at the junction with the path leading right to the Jean Grossan viewpoint. Continue left along a long, easy traverse. Make a 180° hairpin bend and continue along the path, which ends at the Crête des Grangettes signal station.

(3) Begin the descent towards Col Fromage; the signs here point the way to this pass.
Caution here: it is possible to take the ridge – a path is clearly visible – but this is strongly discouraged for two reasons:
- the slope is steep and the route is tricky.
- an additional and more important reason: it contributes to erosion.
After a few gentle bends, you will reach Col Fromage.

(4) Turn right onto theGR®5, which is also a variant ofthe GR®58, and continue down a very easy descent through alternating woodland and open sections. Finish the descent at the hamlet of Le Villard, where you’ll find a good track.

(5) Turn right onto it and follow it to the entrance to Ceillac, at the junction by the fire station.

(6) Continue to the right, pass the Ceillac VVF, turn right to reach the Queyras district, and carry on to reach the car park at the end of the road (S/E).

Notes

Shortly before (1) Plateau at the edge of the forest: on the right, you can see the remains of the chairlift’s top station and, on the left, the base of the old Col de Bramousse ski lift.
Important note: this description complements the one that starts from the hamlet of Le Villard. Reaching this hamlet by car from Ceillac is strongly recommended for vehicles with high ground clearance and those not put off by tricky sections.
After the (2) For those wishing to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Ceillac, it is well worth making the return trip to the Jean Grossan viewpoint

Worth a visit

(3) Les Chambrettes Lookout
(4) The Col Fromage: a major crossroads of trails, this pass is particularly popular with tourists and hikers. This pass provides access to several valleys, including the Ceillac valley (as specified in the description), as well as the Guil valley at Château Queyras via the village of Bramousse, and Molines en Queyras via the Col des Prés de Fromage.

A wonderful route along some beautiful paths. A real treat for the eyes. No herds, no sheepdogs.

A lovely circular path along a high, balcony-like path between the two passes, but it’s safe and popular with mountain bikers.
