A superb circular route in the isolated enclave of south-eastern Vercors, on the border between Drôme and Isère. The route combines the geological interest of the Sucettes de Borne, the flowers and wide open spaces of the Jiboui mountain pastures, and a long stretch along grassy ridges with extraordinary panoramic views.

This is an easy hike, whose main attraction is the superb site of the Sucettes de Borne, narrow, vertical rock formations several dozen metres high, defying the laws of gravity. The trails are very pleasant, with contrasting vegetation: on the south side, semi-Mediterranean with forests mainly populated by pine trees; on the north side, a beautiful mixed forest of fir and beech trees, with lots of boxwood.

Choosing Clelles station as the end point for this crossing means you can do the whole thing from Grenoble, but it’s of course possible to arrange for a car to be waiting in Chichilianne before setting off.

Chichilianne is a treasure trove of hikes towards the Vercors plateau. Once finished, some people take the train which stops at Clelles. But few hikers know that you can set off from Chichilianne or La Richardière and reach Clelles station in under two hours, walking alongside an irrigation canal for nearly three kilometres. This return walk to Clelles can also be taken in the opposite direction when you start your journey.
