Description of the walk

(S) Leave the Valgabondage lodge, heading south-east along the wide track that supports theGR®94andGRP® Tour du Dévoluy trails. Pass the car park and take the good path through the forest that runs parallel to the Ravin des Aiguilles.

(1) Then tackle the dry but easy climb ending at the Col des Aiguilles.

(2) Head due east on the long descent into the Vallon des Aiguilles.

(3) Continue eastwards to reach the top of the Saute Aure waterfall, where a tricky passage requires your full attention.

(4) Then go around the Roudet spur and reach a crossroads of trails.

(5) Leave theGR® trail continuing towards the Col du Festre and turn left onto the Dévoluy discovery trail to reach the Cabane de la Rama.

(6) Then turn 180° to join a forest track.

(7) Take it on the left and follow it to the Lachaup terminus and the Rocher Rond lodge (E), today's stop.

Completed on 08/10/2023 in exceptional weather conditions.
The path is easy to find, and even though it starts at the resort under the ski lifts, it gradually becomes more beautiful.
First through the woods, then much more rocky. You end up surrounded by beautiful cliffs and scree.
46 minutes to climb (on a trail), no major difficulties.
The view at the pass is sublime!

I did a circular path starting from the pass, on the right as you arrive, to reach a beautiful ridge (marked with blue paint, be sure to follow it or you'll end up in the Alps at some point). This path is slightly exposed, but not difficult. It takes you to the top of Merlant, where you'll find a high-mountain atmosphere, before descending to rejoin the trail.

Enjoy your walk, everyone!

Hike completed in beautiful weather. The passage at the Col des Aiguilles offers breathtaking scenery. The descent into the valley is superb. A slightly tricky passage above the Saute Aure waterfall requires careful attention. The view of the Pic de Bure is very beautiful.
We stayed at the Rocher Rond lodge. The owner, who was very friendly, told us about the life of the inhabitants of Dévoluy. A very pleasant evening.

The first part up to the pass is fairly unremarkable, but when you reach the highest point, the landscape is breathtaking. We stopped overnight in Agnières en Dévoluy and returned to La Jarjatte the next day via the Col Charnier and Lac du Lauzon. This route (known as "le tour des aiguilles") is a little challenging but will remain a great memory.

Hike to the Col des Aiguilles on a cold, foggy Sunday, so we turned back at the pass.
The ascent took just under two hours and the descent took 1 hour 15 minutes/30 minutes.
At the start, i.e. after the last car park, the signposting was misleading, with a white/red GR cross suggesting that you should not take the path on the left, whereas further up this path there is white/red signposting!

To start with, I would simply add that you need to take the path through the forest that runs parallel to the ski lifts. You can't miss it!
