(S/E) From the car park at Billième Town Hall, cross the D44 road, start climbing and you will come to an intersection.
(1) Turn right, then cross Les Jacquins.
(2) At the end of the hamlet, turn right again. Continue along a good path that leads into the countryside. As you climb, leave a route to Gerbaz on your right and reach the La Teissonnière crossroads.
(3) Take the path on the right that enters the forest.
(4) At the next crossroads, ignore the path opposite leading to Col du Chat and continue left. This is a long climb, with some steeper sections.
(5) Leave the path and take a trail that climbs to the left to reach "Sous la Charvaz".
(6) Climb to the left and reach the summit in a few minutes.
(7) La Charvaz (1158m), close by, is another small summit that is worth a detour for the view. Return to the "Sous la Charvaz" crossroads.
(6) Take the path on the left that descends for a long way into the forest. You will reach a forest track.
(8) Turn left onto this track; leave it immediately 50m further on to descend the path on the right. This path gradually leaves the forest and joins an intersection. Turn left onto a good path which leads, 200m further on, to a small road near a chapel.
(9) Turn left onto the road first, then take a good path that forms a circular loop and reaches an intersection with another route option.
(10) Leave the path that leads to Ontex on your left and turn right. Continue left shortly afterwards, on the path that leads to the top of the village.
(11) Cross the village, descending to the left along the road, and continue. At the edge of the village, this road will make a large bend.
(12) 100 metres further on, leave the road and take the path on the left (unmarked), which initially climbs slightly before descending to the road. Follow it to the left for a short distance.
(13) Leave it again and turn left onto the Sentier du Saut de l'Âne. Descend this winding path until you reach a crossroads.
(14) Take the right path on the left towards Jongieux le Haut. A long, gentle descent will take you to the vineyards above the village. Cross the village downhill to reach the main road (D210).
(15) Follow the departmental road, turning left for 200 metres.
(16) Leave the road and take the small road on the left, which quickly turns into a slightly hilly path through the vineyards, leading back to Billième.
(1) Continue straight ahead and follow the same route as on the way out to reach the car park, which is now only 400 metres away (S/E).
Did this hike in rainy weather, got caught in the first downpour under Charvaz, the second when arriving at Ontex, which was very heavy. The descents were difficult and very slippery. At point 9, I decided to take the alternative route to point 10 to cut the length of the route by two kilometres given the weather, but it was steep and slippery. Fortunately, it wasn't long. Other than that, it was a beautiful hike. From point 8, be careful not to miss the path that branches off to the right, as it is somewhat hidden by tall grass. No comments from other hikers on this route. 15 km for 955 m elevation gain and 4 hours 25 minutes.
