From Billième, reached from Yenne or Saint Jean-de-Chevelu, climb to the hamlet of Les Jacquins, cross it and park at the end of the tarmac road.
(S/E) Take the gravel road that continues on from there. After a wide bend, it turns south-east and gradually climbs. At the edge of the forest, it turns left and reaches the Mollairon crossroads.
(1) Take a forest path on the left, heading north-west. It climbs above the fields of Santourin. At the first bend, take the marked path on the right, which leads to a second crossroads 200 metres further on.
Alternative: at the first bend, you can also continue straight ahead on an old mule track: be sure to continue climbing to the right when you reach the first path to join the route described above, before the (3).
.
(2) Leave the marked path to the right towards Sur le Crêtet and climb to the left towards the north-west, under a rocky outcrop visible through the trees. At the next junction, leave the path that descends slightly to the left and turn right to continue climbing.
After a short flat section, the path veers right to climb a little more directly up the slope to a crossroads.
(3) The main trail turns left to descend towards Ontex. However, you must take the steep path opposite that climbs straight up the slope, marked by a cairn and two blue dots (this fairly discreet marking accompanies the rest of the climb).
After climbing up a couloir, the trail veers to the right and then winds its way up to pass over a first rocky outcrop. It climbs up the slope to the right to pass over a second outcrop before veering east to reach a pass between the two peaks.
(4) From this pass, where the trails cross, first climb to the left for a round trip to the geographical summit, then climb to the right for a round trip to the "natural viewing platform".
Descend eastwards to a valley where you leave the path to Ontex on the left and descend on the right into the forest. The bottom of the descent becomes steeper, but a new path has been laid out to make a few hairpin bends before arriving at a forest track at a place called Le Poulailler.
(5) Turn right and descend this track, which veers left along a small valley on the ridge, at the end of which it winds right and then left.
(6) Take the right path, which descends under the rocky ridge, turns right and reaches a crossroads at Sur le Crêtet.
Alternative route: in the bend (6) on the left, a discreet cairn marks the start of a shortcut that descends straight down the slope towards Sur le Crêtet (wear sturdy footwear to avoid twisting your ankle).
(7) Turn left to continue down the forest track, which winds around and reaches the crossroads at Chapieu.
Alternative: at (7), you can also continue straight ahead to join the ascent route at (2)
(8) Turn right to descend to the junction on the way out.
(1) Follow the gravel road in the opposite direction to the starting point (S/E).
