The Manéguen Route

Park near the Chapel of Notre-Dame du Manéguen.

(S/E) At the start of the path, discover the majestic Chapel of Manéguen, set within a vast enclosure. It was built in 1577, according to the inscription on a wall plate in the nave. Take the path that runs alongside the chapel to reach the highest point of Le Manéguen (150 m), situated near the Saint-Michel Chapel. A sweeping panorama unfolds before you; no fewer than 15 church spires can be spotted using the orientation board.

(1) Continue along the path through the gorse to reach the Pierre de Sacrifices. Legend has it that on this large natural granite slab, the druids carried out human sacrifices.

(2) Just to the right of the stone, head down towards the Evel Valley, following small paths until you reach a road.

(3) Continue along the road to the right, then turn left twice towards the village of Treussac’h.

(4) Before reaching Treussac’h, take the wide path leading downhill to the right, overlooking the River Evel. This 55-kilometre-long tributary of the Blavet is well known to anglers for its trout, pike and perch.

(5) After following this path alongside the water, turn right onto the road and then immediately left. A long footpath leads you back to your starting point at Le Manéguen (S/E).

- Notre-Dame du Manéguen Chapel

The Chapel of Notre-Dame du Manéguen was built in^{the 16th} century. This chapel, shaped like a Latin cross, is constructed of granite and schist, with a bell tower in the Cornish style. The chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, to whom women prayed to conceive or protect their pregnancy.

- Saint-Michel Chapel

Standing at an altitude of 155 metres, the chapel was built in 1783, the date inscribed beneath the doorway. It was rebuilt in the late^19th or early^20th century using stones from the original structure. The panelling has disappeared, no doubt during the complete overhaul of the roof structure, roofing and part of the masonry carried out by Joseph Herné, of Baud.
You’ll enjoy a beautiful panoramic view from the orientation table, from where you can see no fewer than 15 bell towers.

- The moors

Once used by farmers and their herds, the moors are typical open habitats, consisting of heather, gorse, broom and other low-growing vegetation. Now rare, they are home to a remarkable and fragile biodiversity. These areas are home to exceptional wildlife: the yellowhammer, the whitethroat, as well as a wide variety of butterflies and insects.
And if you take a stroll here at dusk in summer, listen carefully… You might be lucky enough to hear — and even catch a glimpse of — the European nightjar, a discreet bird with a mysterious call.

- The Sacrifice Stone

This sacrificial stone is carved with small basins. It may have been a Druidic altar, set up for rituals. It is said that people were offered as sacrifices to the local deity. According to local belief, elderly people also came here to live out their final days.
