The Goyerdon Route

From the church at La Chapelle-Neuve, take the D189 towards Camors. After 1 km, turn left towards the village of La Haie, then carry on straight on towards the village of Kerblouz and finally Kervolanec. 200 metres past the village, take the dirt track to the Kervolanec car park.

(S/E) From the car park, take the path on your left downhill to reach the Goyerdon stream. This is a small tributary of the Tarun; it winds its way through a steep-sided valley, carving out rocky outcrops as it flows.

(1) Follow the stream upstream, keeping straight on.

(2) Walk back up a lovely sunken path to the road.

(3) Take the road on your right for 200 metres.

(4) Then turn right again onto a small, gently sloping path. You are now in the heart of the Floranges State Forest. Purchased by Louis XVI in 1785 to supply the Lorient arsenals with ship timber, the Floranges Forest became state property during the Revolution. Classified as a Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF), it is home to numerous endemic species such as the Quimper snail, the ermine and the marbled newt. Rare birds also inhabit this woodland; you may spot a black woodpecker or a pitchou warbler. At the bottom of the path, turn right to return to the car park (S/E).

- Floranges Forest

The nearby Floranges State Forest was acquired by Louis XVI in 1785 to supply the Lorient shipyards with timber for shipbuilding. It became state property during the Revolution. Now classified as a ZNIEFF (Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest), it is home to a wealth of flora and fauna, including endemic species such as the Quimper snail, the ermine and the marbled newt.

The Goyerdon, meanwhile, is a crystal-clear stream, a haven for trout and salmon, and a veritable treasure trove of biodiversity to be explored at a leisurely pace.
