Description of the walk

Parking available at the water sports centre car park.
Car park – 32 Rue du Blavet (D 23, Route de Penquesten, near the entrance to the Domaine du Bunz).

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left. Cross to the right at the pedestrian crossing to reach the entrance to the Parc du Bunz. Walk straight up the central path. Continue straight on to the viewpoint, ignoring the paths on the left.

(1) Go back a few steps to take the path that leads you to the right towards the small greenhouse, then on to the culinary garden and the ‘Eight Squares’ garden. Exit via the large greenhouse and meander through the maze. Then walk down the main path and rejoin the route on the left.

(2) Stay on the path on the right, ignoring the paths on the left, then carry on straight ahead. Walk past the fountain, cross the stream and the wetland area via the boardwalks. Walk up the field and follow the path to the left until you reach the road. Turn left, then take the first right. At the junction by the small bridge, continue left, then turn right at the houses in Lann Blenn.

(3) Head down to the left along the Venelle des Moissonneurs, then go straight on between the houses, ignoring the junctions. When you reach the wetland opposite, cross the grassy area and turn left. Continue along the path to the right, then straight on until you reach Rue Édouard Henriot. Opposite, head under the lime trees and walk along the cemetery wall (straight ahead and then to the left). At the end, take the passageway on the right. In the Cité des Lilas, turn right and then immediately left. Continue straight ahead to Rue du Penher and turn right.

(4) Walk down the street and turn right into the market square. Join Rue Émile Zola and turn right. Cross Rue Léon Blum at the pedestrian crossings, then Rue Émile Zola to the left to enter the underpass leading to the Blavet. Walk upstream on the left, then take the footbridge on the right.

(5) Cross the car park and head straight on towards Locastel. At the sign marking the start of the Route des Forgerons, turn right and walk along the Blavet on your left. Take the footbridge on the right to leave the Île de Locastel and head right back to the starting car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

This route is organised by Lorient Agglomération
- Domaine du Bunz: the grounds of the former residence of the ironworks owners, acquired in the late 1990s by Lorient Agglomération. Over 1,200 trees, 48 different species, including some remarkable specimens (Lebanese cedar, sequoia, paulownia, etc.).
- Belvedere: remains of the house built in the late 19th century, destroyed by fire; the lower part has been converted into a belvedere.
- Small greenhouse: a mix of grasses, ferns and perennials, also planted in the large greenhouse, the ‘Jardin des Huit Carrés’ and the maze.
- Edible garden: surrounded by low stone walls, this garden features a mix of fruit trees and herbs.
- Garden of the Eight Squares: eight flowerbeds bordered by steel wickerwork, a nod to the area’s industrial past.
- Large greenhouse
- Maze
- Bunz ornamental fountain: formerly adorned with carved salmon
- The Blavet: a 163-kilometre-long river, channelled between 1806 and 1825.
- Île de Locastel: one of the sites of the ironworks that operated from 1860 to 1966, stretching for 2.5 km along the banks of the Blavet as far as Kerglaw downstream: the first rolling mills were built in 1872, and there is a brick hall used for galvanising. The Parc d’Eau Vive is open all year round.

Very pleasant walk in the Bois de Trémelin forest, well-marked trail, slightly difficult section near the pond
the path is slippery with stones on the descent.
