Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Baives church

(S/E) Follow the RD283 towards Moustier-en-Fagne. At the next junction, by the Oratory of Saint-Donat – which offers protection from storms and lightning – head straight up the Route de Wallers.

(1) At the top of the hill, continue left towards the water tower, leaving the road behind. You’ll enter the
Monts de Baives Regional Nature Reserve through a gate. Carry on straight ahead to reach the Saint-Fiacre Chapel, built in 1756 (marked as ‘Chapelle des Monts’ on the map). Note the two lime trees nearby, which are listed in the Avesnois Regional Nature Park’s inventory of remarkable trees.

(2) Opposite the chapel, continue to the left. Leave the site through a second gate and follow the path down in front of you (panoramic view of the moorland and the surrounding Belgian and French church spires).

(3) At the road, turn left to return via the church and the village of Baives (S/E).

Hello
We were disappointed with this route, both in terms of the quality of the paths – three-quarters of which were on tarmac roads with heavy and dangerous traffic during the first part of the route – and in terms of its appeal.
No scenic views, nothing in particular to discover – apart, of course, from the pretty St Fiacre chapel.
Fortunately, as we did this route in early May, the fields in bloom were still a delight to the eye
It’s also worth noting the very pretty church in Blaives and its two magnificent trees.

Following your advice, we also cycled the ‘Blue Stone’ route, which we found absolutely delightful.

Thank you for these routes
Kind regards
