Description of the walk

(S/E) The walk starts in front of the school in Wallers-en-Fagne, next to the orientation table. Head towards the church, about fifty metres further down on your right.

You can borrow the church keys from the town hall when it is open to explore the interior.
Take a look around the more secluded side of the church, the one that hides a riddle in plain sight... Head to the left of the church (towards the road), towards the cemetery.
There, stand on the stone slab, opposite the gutter, near the grave. Then look up at the stained-glass window...

Now turn around and retrace your steps back to the church façade. Then turn left onto the small road (Route de Momignies) which slopes gently downwards.

Further on, cross the sawmill canal. Continue along the road and, a little further on, you’ll pass a huge quarry. Be careful on the road. There are very few cars, but you never know. Look well ahead!

(1) Go straight on, following the blue sign for ‘visite panoramique de la CCM’ to reach the viewpoint and enjoy the panoramic view of the quarry.

Turn left and head up the hill. Watch out, it’s a steep climb! Approach the barriers and discover an active quarry. You can observe the different stages of aggregate extraction.

(2) Retrace your steps to the previous junction, turn right onto Route de Momignies and continue to the junction just before that.

(1) Head left and cross the bridge towards the mill. Children must stay away from the water and the wheel!

Leave the mill and take the main road on the left. Watch out, it’s a steep climb!
Walk to the old brewery. Turn around to see the working quarry in the distance. What a view!

Continue along the main road. A little further on, at the junction with the D83, stop for a moment and turn round. You’ll have a lovely view of the new quarry!
By the way, this is where people with reduced mobility can join the route. Turn left and walk for about 80 metres.

(3) Cross the road (take care) and take the road branching off to the right. Continue along the road until you reach the wayside shrine.

(4) At the junction, turn right onto the main road, which now slopes gently downwards.

You’re almost there! Carry on along this same road. On the way, do take a look at the old Wallers wash house (keep an eye out, as in summer it’s well hidden by the vegetation).
Pass the wash house and continue along the main road. At the junction with the D83, go straight on to the town hall (S/E).
