Description of the walk

Access: From Briançon, cross the Col de Montgenèvre, descend towards Turin, then exit at the bottom of the pass at Cesana Torinese. Cross the village to the south and take the SP215 towards Sauze di Cesana. Pass Busson and, at the exit of the village, take the road on the right towards Thures. Park just before the entrance to the village.

(S/E) Cross the village and walk up alongside the church, then head east-northeast until you reach the Val Thuras track. Take this track to the right towards Rhuilles for 250 metres.

(1) Leave the track and take the lane on the left, heading north-east. This climbs above the village and then enters a larch forest to the east, where it turns into a path before ending in pastures. From here, you can see the summit.

Follow this path generally eastwards along the western ridge of the summit and, after a few hairpin bends, you will reach the summit and its chapel.

(2) Return via the same route in reverse (S/E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 1,660 m - Car park at the entrance to the village.
  2. 1 : km 0.52 - alt. 1,714 m - Crossroads, track, alley
  3. 2 : km 3.93 - alt. 2,369 m - Summit of Cima del Bosco
  4. S/E : km 7.88 - alt. 1,660 m - Car park at the entrance to the village.

Notes

I made a video showing the route and describing the atmosphere of this beautiful trail.
It shows the ingenious system for identifying the surrounding peaks, topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Thank you for your feedback.
Please note that I have also written guides for the 3,000-metre peaks in this same mountain range.
Roc del Boucher, Cima del Pelvo and Punta Ramière or Bric Froid, and finally Cime Frappier and Grand Queyron at the end of the chain.
Roc del Boucher is a little more difficult to access via the Thures valley than the others, which are accessible via the Argentera valley.
These peaks are best climbed in clear weather without fog.
See the videos of these hikes on my YouTube channel "Randonnées montagnardes".

A climb that requires good physical condition, a trail rarely used by Italians. A splendid 360-degree view.

A very shady climb through larch trees. The ascent is a little steep (which is understandable given the short distance covered) as soon as you enter the forest.
As always in Italy, the villages at the start of the route are beautifully renovated and peaceful.
At the summit, highly original telescopes allow you to identify the surrounding peaks with precision (both in Italy and France).
Also at the summit, a chapel (built in memory of a helicopter accident) provides shelter in case of bad weather (and perhaps a place to spend the night?).
It is possible to reach the summit by mountain bike via the forest road (to the east).
To avoid the crowds at lunchtime, don't hesitate to set off early in the morning!

A lovely hike in Italy's Piedmont region, in the hills above Sestrières, near the French border.
The trail starts in the woods, with some very steep sections.
As you climb, the view opens up onto Mont Chaberton when you turn around.
The end of the hike is in open country.
At the summit, there is a chapel and a modern "orientation table" consisting of long views all installed in the direction of the surrounding peaks.
The viewpoint overlooks many of the peaks of western Piedmont to the north.
To the south, nearby Monte Furgon (2,815 m) and Punta Muta (3,171 m) in the background dominate the landscape.
Finally, to the west, on the French side, the view opens up onto the Queyras but above all onto the Ecrins, some thirty kilometres away.

A very beautiful hike, with some very steep climbs, but you can take them at your own pace. Magnificent view at the summit.

A beautiful hike, especially at the summit: an informative conversation with a local about the history and role of the Occitan language in this part of Italy.
