Where does this lead us? To Manou!

A pleasant circular, partly through the forest and partly across fields, ideal for a late morning walk, lunch in Manou or at the Moulin à Vent, and a return in the afternoon with a visit to the Froux peat bog.
Departure from the Senonches national forest, from the Bois des Dames, formerly owned by the nuns of the neighbouring Belhomert Abbey. At the entrance to Manou, view of the castle known as Blanche de Castille. Garden near the church and the "Bon'Eure" pond in Manou, a pleasant place to relax and have a picnic.
Cross the Froux bog site, developed by the Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels (Conservatory of Natural Areas) to showcase rare and protected animal and plant species.
Return via the Forestiers pond, which is ideal for observing animals coming to drink in the evening.

Description of the walk

Parking at Rond des Dames, the first roundabout on the D319 at the entrance to the forest coming from Senonches.

Yellow markings

(S/E) With your back to Senonches, follow the wide path diagonally to the left which descends towards the stream flowing at the bottom of the Vallée Biquet.

No markings

(1) Before reaching the stream, leave the PR® which goes to the left and turn right onto the path along the edge of the forest. Cross the D319 carefully, continue straight ahead and go to the start of a path on the left towards some houses.

(2) Go up to the left along a path beside a hedge that continues along Rue du Bois des Dames. You will arrive at the hamlet of Le Long des Bois.

(3) Turn left onto the road, Chemin du Long des Bois, and continue straight ahead to the D319, ignoring the road coming from the right

(4) Cross the road carefully and continue straight ahead on the path between the fields until you reach the edge of a wood.

(5) Turn right onto the path lined with a hedge and arrive at a crossroads at the Ailes Blanches houses.

(6) Take the path on the left towards Les Feugerons. Follow this path straight ahead until you reach the D140

(7) Turn right onto the road and follow it carefully to the cross at the entrance to Manou.

(8) Turn right (view of the castle known as Blanche de Castille). Pass in front of the school and arrive at the war memorial in front of Manou church. Cross the garden, which is full of flowers in summer, and pass in front of the church.

(9) Carefully cross Rue Louis Houdé, then the car park (bus shelter). Continue straight ahead along Rue de l'Étang (D140) towards Pas Saint-Laumert. You will arrive just before the first bridge over the Eure.

(10) Turn right onto the path that goes around the Étang du Bon'Eure. (Picnic tables - fitness trail.) Go around the lake until you reach a footbridge over the Eure on the right.

(11) Cross the footbridge and you will come out onto a large field behind the village hall. Walk along the right-hand side of the river and you will come back to the D140. Take a slight detour to the right, crossing the second bridge, to reach the wash house (shelter). From the wash house, return along the road to the start of the path that goes around the pond.

(10) Continue straight ahead, in the opposite direction to the outward journey, along the small road to the car park in front of the church.

(9) Cross the car park and continue to the right between the town hall and the church towards La Loupe. Pass in front of the bar, then in front of the Institut Médico Educatif (DAME). Cross the street carefully and turn left onto Rue du Charme, with its magnificent gate at the corner. Continue to the crossroads, at the beginning of a slight left turn in the street, with Chemin du Boulay-Belisseaux. Turn right along the tarmac road to the triangular crossroads.

(12) Turn left onto Chemin du Moulin à Vent (bus shelter). Follow this small road to the small car park at the entrance to the Tourbière des Froux discovery route (inn 500 m along the road).

(13) Follow the path to the Tourbière des Froux (information board). Turn right to cross the footbridge. Walk to the end of the footbridge. You can also continue straight ahead to complete the loop and end up at (14) at the end of the footbridge.

(14) At the end of the pontoon, leave the discovery route and take the path on the right, which climbs steeply and then turns left towards the north. (Do not cross the embankment - private property). The slope levels out and the path leads to a small car park on the edge of the D140.

You can start from the church in Manou (parking available in front of the church). In Manou, there is a communal pond: a pleasant place for a picnic break. From the church, go opposite Rue de l'Étang. Before the bridge, turn right. Continue along this road for 100 m to reach the wash house on the banks of the Eure, which offers shelter.

Worth a visit

In the national forest, pick mushrooms, lily of the valley, etc. Observe animals.
