Description of the walk

Head to the village of Grignon, situated on the D925, near Albertville. Park behind the church in a car park offering plenty of spaces, some of which are shaded.

(S/E) Start at the “Grignon Église” sign, located right next to the church, and head towards “l’Oratoire”. After about 200 m, take a moment to admire a pretty little waterfall.

(1) Leave the road and take a path that winds steeply uphill to the right. This crosses the Route de Saint-Guérin twice – a road with very little traffic – before rejoining it.

(2) Cross it and take the path on the left. You’ll meet the road one last time at a hairpin bend. Cross it again and continue straight ahead on the path leading to the Oratoire, which offers a beautiful view of the valley and the Bauges.

(3) Continue along this route to reach the Carrefour de la Mure and enjoy the view of the Beaufortain.

(4) Leave the track and take a path on the right that climbs straight up the slope. From here, there are no further markings until you reach the Baraque Noire. You will come to a junction.

(5) Take the second path on the right. Pass under the power line and reach another junction at an elevation of 850 metres.

(6) Turn left, pass under the power line again, and arrive at Baraque Noire.

(7) Turn right to rejoin a signposted route.

(8) Turn left and continue until you reach a road at a place called Plan Noiray.

(9) Turn right onto it for about thirty metres, then turn left onto a path that leads back to the same road, further down. Leave the marked trail and continue left along this road for about 400 m, until you reach the hairpin bend.

(10) Turn left onto a new signposted path and continue straight on until you reach the village of Monthion. Turn right, then left, opposite the church. Walk past the town hall and continue to a wayside shrine on the right-hand side of the road.

(11) Leave the road immediately after the wayside shrine and take a path on the right. Walk down to the road.

(12) Turn right onto the road and follow it for about 200 metres until you find a signposted path on the left which leads straight back to Grignon and the church car park (S/E).
