A charming little country lane that will take you towards Puisieux, then towards Essart-les-Bucquoy, before bringing you back to Hébuterne via Gommecourt. Few roads, just to link the lanes. You can turn left after passing the farm (3) to visit the British cemeteries.

Description of the walk

The start is at the town hall, with a car park nearby.

(S/E) Head right, ignore the first street on the left (which will be the return route), pass in front of the church and continue to the bend in the main street.

(1) Leave this street, take Rue de Serre opposite, cross a road, and arrive at a Fork in the road.

(2) Continue along the same road, pass a farm, and join a PR®

(3) Take the small path (PR®) on the left and head down to a first small junction where the PR® branches off to the right. Continue straight on until you reach a road (D27).

(4) First turn right then left to cross it carefully, and continue along the path which leads onto the D6.

(5) Head left for about a hundred metres, then turn onto the small road on the right. Continue until you reach a junction with three paths.

(6) Head slightly left until you reach a small road.

(7) Turn right and go up the small hill to the path on the left. Take this and join a road (D8).

(8) Follow it to the left until you reach the entrance to Essarts lès Bucquoy.

(9) Turn left onto Chemin de Gommecourt until you reach the entrance to the village of Gommecourt.

(10) At the crossroads, continue straight on along Rue du Calvaire until you reach Rue de la Chapelle. Turn left onto Rue Saint-Martin, then take the first right onto Rue d’Hébuterne.

(11) Take this and continue to the entrance to the village of Hébuterne.

(12) At the crossroads, turn immediately left onto a small tarmac road that goes uphill, passing a white house.

(13) Cross a road and continue straight on until you reach the next street.

(14) Turn right and go down Rue de Milan to the main road. Follow it to the right and head for the town hall car park (S/E).

An easy walk on decent paths. Ideal for autumn as the paths seem to cope well with damp conditions. A few tarmac sections but virtually no motorised traffic. Passes near the Bois d'Adinfer, which is unfortunately private except for a short stretch of path on the way out of Adinfer. Little elevation gain. This walk can be completed in under 3 hours. The only potential issue is perhaps finding parking at the starting point (???)
