Around Hébuterne

A pleasant walk along narrow country lanes that will take you to Sailly-au-Bois and then Colincamps before bringing you back to Hébuterne. Walking boots are recommended in wet weather.

Description of the walk

Park in the Hébuterne town hall car park.

(S/E) From the town hall, walk along the left-hand side of the square towards a small square, pass the bottle recycling bins and then the large white bins, and walk up Rue du Four to the water tower.

(1) Turn left and follow the path to a junction.

(2) Turn right, pass a small wood and come to a path on the right.

(3) Turn onto this small path and follow it to a junction.

(4) Take the sharp left-hand bend, follow a small embankment and then skirt a small wood until you reach a junction of two small paths.

(5) Take the path opposite until you reach Route de Sailly-au-Bois.

(6) Follow it to the left for about 100 m and take the path on the right heading south-west until you reach the Sailly-au-Bois exit (D23).

(7) Follow this road to the left, passing the water tower and a chapel, until you reach a bend in the D23.

(8) Continue along the small path opposite, which climbs up to a transformer.

(9) Turn right and rejoin the D23.

(10) Follow it to the left towards Colincamps.

(11) At the entrance to Colincamps, take the first street on the left, Rue d’Hébuterne. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead north-eastwards to reach the entrance to Hébuterne.

(12) At the crossroads, take the small path on the right which passes in front of a farm and joins Rue Frédéric Bonnefond, which leads onto Rue de Mailly.

(13) Follow it to the left and you will arrive at the church.

(14) Turn left and head for the car park at Hébuterne Town Hall (S/E).

A lovely walk – I’d recommend taking a map with you, as there are no signposts.
But very easy.
