Douchy-lès-Ayette

An easy walk on decent paths.
Ideal for autumn as the paths seem to cope well with damp conditions.
A few tarmac sections but virtually no motorised traffic.

Passes near the Bois d'Adinfer, which is unfortunately private except for a short stretch of path on the way out of Adinfer.

Little elevation gain. This walk can be completed in under 3 hours.

The only potential issue is perhaps finding parking at the starting point (???)

Description of the walk

Church of Douchy-lès-Ayette

(S/E) Opposite the church, take the street furthest to the right (Rue du Val). Ignore the turnings to the left and right and continue to a three-way junction.

(1) Turn right. At the first fork, turn right.
At the second fork, turn left. You’ll reach the edge of the woods; follow the path to the left. The path turns right and you’ll come to a fork.

(2) Take the straight path on the left. At the T-junction, turn right to reach a crossroads immediately.

(3) Turn left to reach another T-junction. Turn left again and, 50 m further on, turn right onto a grassy path. You will reach a T-junction.

(4) Turn left to quickly reach a fork. Turn right onto the path. This is the Chemin de Damas, which leads us to the D 8.

(5) Cross it carefully and take the path opposite. You’ll reach a T-junction under the power line.
Turn left, walk past the farm (La Brayelle) and cross the small Bois des Dames to reach another T-junction (this section may be a bit muddy or even wet).

(6) Turn left and follow the small road to the D 8. Cross it, taking care, and continue straight ahead along the wide path, which is partly tarmac, leading to a junction at a place called Les Cent Mesures (elevation 136).

(7) Continue straight ahead. After 300 m, you’ll reach a fork.

(8) Take the lovely grassy path on the right. 1 km further on, at the junction, carry straight on. Ignore the path coming from the right and eventually join the D 7 at the entrance to Ayette.

(9) Cross it (Take care, there’s a bend here!) and take the street opposite. You’ll soon reach a fork where you turn left into Rue de l’Église. The tarmac gives way to grass. Keeping northwards, you’ll reach a junction.

(10) Turn left and head towards the church, clearly visible at the far end (S/E).

Notes

It isn’t very difficult, but I recommend wearing good shoes

A lovely route: the outward leg is a dirt and grass track through wooded countryside, whilst the return leg is straighter and follows a tarmac road

A very pleasant route. There are indeed a few quite muddy paths with ruts, so walking boots are a good idea
