Circular walk through the countryside between the villages of Coincourt, Xures and Moncourt

A circular route, along paths and small country roads, between the villages of Coincourt, Xures and Moncourt. Along the way, a bit of history in the Bois de Champcourt, with a visit to a site featuring five German blockhouses from the 1814–1918 period.

Description of the walk

The walk starts at Coincourt church, Grande Rue, where parking is available.

(S/E) Opposite the church entrance, head down Grande Rue, on the right-hand side of the church, then turn right onto Rue de l’Église.

(1) At Grande Rue (D23), turn left and continue to the edge of the village.

(2) At the cemetery, continue right on the D23 until you reach a Y-junction.

(3) Continue along the small road to the left, cross a stream, follow the Bois Brûlé, and arrive at the start of the Bois de Champs Courts.

(4) Turn right, follow the sign to visit the site of the five blockhouses, then return to the track and continue to the right, towards the D2.

(5) Continue left to cross the village of Xures via the Grande Rue.

(6) On leaving the village, turn left towards Moncourt and continue straight on along the small road to reach the village of Moncourt.

(7) In the centre of the village, opposite the church, turn left onto Rue Principale and continue straight on along the D22, which passes through the Bois de Moncourt. Continue along the D23f to reach Coincourt.

(8) After the town hall, take the second street on the left, Rue de l’Église, and turn right to reach the car park (S/E).

The continuity of the paths between Moncourt and Coincourt is no longer guaranteed due to a lack of maintenance, so you must return via the road.

The churches and fountains of the three villages.

After the point (3), at the exit of the second bend, in the field on the left, a completely buried blockhouse.

The site of the five 1914–18 blockhouses in the Bois de Champs Courts with its information panel.

The blockhouse beneath the pavilion on the road from Xures to Moncourt.

From every high point, views over the Saulnois countryside and, in the distance, the Vosges mountains.
