The route will take you along the GR®30 and GR®441 trails into the heart of the Chaîne des Puys, between the Puy de Sancy and the Puy de Dôme, to explore the volcanoes and lakes of Auvergne as well as the Romanesque basilica of Notre-Dame d’Orcival.

There are a few major inaccuracies in the route description, often at key points along the way. It’s always the same problem with these well-meaning people, who suggest a route they know well because they’re on their own turf and think the description is sufficient. But when you’re unfamiliar with the area and are exploring it for the first time, it really isn’t that simple!! And if we add to that the GR signposting, which is sometimes a bit dated and half-faded – and which could do with a refresh in places – this sometimes means you have to walk with the map in hand the whole time, which prevents you from fully enjoying the beauty of the scenery.But with a bit of a sense of direction and a bit of common sense, it’s still perfectly doable if you stay very alert. A lovely walk all the same. Well worth doing for the incredible beauty of the Chaîne des Puys.....
