Coming from the D5, head towards Mareuge via the D5h and, once in the village, keep turning right, pass the old chapel, and park at the side of the road on the right, shortly afterwards, on a lay-by. This is the hikers’ car park. There is a sign for a hiking route (which does not correspond to this one).
(S/E) Walk back a few metres along the access road, pass the hiking sign (Puy de Baladou) then, immediately afterwards, turn left onto the path, following the Green PR® markings. Ignore a path on the left and you’ll come to a crossroads with four paths.
(1) Leave the Green markings and turn left.
(2) Take the first path on the right and you’ll come to a T-junction. Follow the path to the left.
(3) Ignore a grassy path on the left. Further on, enter the Bois de Maugue.
(4) Ignore a path on the right. Stay on the wide path, ignoring all the old forest tracks, which are more or less overgrown. You’ll reach the ruined Buron du Creux at a junction of three paths.
(5) Carry on straight ahead. A little further on, pass below the Regardet buron on your right, then reach a Fork in the road.
(6) Take the left-hand path, marked PR® Green; follow these markings unless otherwise indicated. Pass a sign about the restoration of a wetland, then cross the Monne, a stream which is very close to its source at this point. Continue along the path as it winds its way uphill. You’ll reach a T-junction.
(7) Follow the path to the left. You’ll reach the ‘Bois de Maugue’ hiking sign at a junction where three paths meet.
(8) Leave the green signposted route and turn right towards Bois de Saignes. At the T-junction (with a private track on the right), continue to the left.
(9) At the Fork in the road marked ‘Bois de Saignes’, keep left towards Prés de Saignes. Continue until you reach the junction marked by this signpost.
(10) Turn left towards Bois de Mareuge and walk for about 100 m, then turn right, following the signs for Creux de Mareuge.
(11) Turn onto a path on the left, following the green PR® signposts again; follow these from now on until the end of the walk. The path, which is stony and eroded, descends steeply. Take care. Further on, the slope levels out. You’ll reach a junction at the ‘Les Creux’ signpost.
(12) Turn left towards La Tombe. Cross the Monne and pass an information board about the river’s restoration work. Follow the road as it climbs back up into the village. Continue straight on at the junction with Rue Chareyre Grande. Pass a wash house and then a fountain. Ignore a road on your right. At the next junction, marked by two crosses, turn left, pass the village bakery and then another fountain, go past an old chapel (now a house) on your right, and shortly afterwards you’ll reach the car park (S/E).
