Barranco del Infierno

El Barranco del Infierno, the ravine of hell, named for its steep terrain, is located in the town of Adeje, in the south-west of Tenerife.
It is a magnificent hike due to its vegetation and views of the coast.
This hike is a round trip and there is a fee. However, it is well worth the investment of €15 per person.
Although the number of people is limited on the site, it is still quite busy. The waterfall at the end of the hike is nothing special, but it is located in a superb setting.
Important note: the elevation gain is 350 m, not 900 m as indicated on the information sheet.

Description of the walk

Park in the pay car park near Casa Fuerte.

(S/E) Take the road uphill opposite the car park exit. Go to Fuente de los Tres Chorros where the ticket office is located. Pay for access to the Barranco site here.
Please note: after payment, there will be a briefing on the hike and you will be given a helmet.

(1) Then begin the hike. To do so, follow the path to easily reach the Barranco del Infierno site and the waterfall.

(2) Return along the same route to the ticket office.

(1) Return the helmet, then continue on to the Casa Fuerte car park (S/E).

Between Arona and Vilaflor, a loop on the heights offering beautiful panoramic views of the Adeje valley, a playground for paragliders. After crossing the Barranco del Rey, a beautiful deep gorge, the trail climbs gently around Mount Suarez, then more steeply up the slopes of Roque Imoque. Along the way, cactus, abandoned farms and old threshing floors and small caves. The gently sloping return journey faces the marine horizon of the island's southern tip.

In the Teide National Park, this hike takes you up to a superb summit which offers splendid views of Teide on one side, and the south coast of Tenerife on the other. A superb loop on one of Tenerife's most beautiful peaks. The whole circuit offers an extraordinary view of the caldera and the summit of the Pico del Teide. The difficulty lies in the suspended passage below the summit. It's an aerial passage, but never exposed, so don't attempt it if visibility is poor. New markings have been added to some of the passages, so the description below will probably have to be adapted to the new markings on the summit section.

An easy hike on a good path. You’ll enjoy superb views of El Teide and the surrounding area. Then you’ll encounter rugged, eroded rocks in a variety of shapes and colours as you approach Montaña Guajara (alt. 2,717 m), the highest peak in the vast caldera. Towards the end of the route, you’ll see viper’s bugloss, those tall plants endemic to Tenerife that bloom red (in the right season). As a bonus, there’s a safe car park.

Montaña Amarilla was created by an underwater volcanic eruption, the crater of which still dominates the area. The sea and erosion have finished shaping the surrounding area into a curious and singular landscape found nowhere else on the island. The landscapes follow one another, with rows of volcanic cones dominated first by Teide, then by the coast, where the yellow rock that gives the mountain its name appears.
