Balanod walks

A very pleasant walk, with some sections where caution is required. It initially runs alongside the Besançon river. (This walk is not recommended during periods of high water). Along the route, you will discover an old spinning mill, a waterfall, two viewpoints, the ruins of the Château de l'Aubépin, a chapel and old wash houses. The route is well shaded and can be enjoyed in summer without any problems.

This is an easy walk with little elevation gain, featuring fountains and six wash houses along the route. Walk on tarmac roads and dirt tracks.

The Saint-Amour region offers small villages with charming traces of the past: wash houses, chapels and the L'Aubépin tower with its breathtaking views. An easy and short walk, but it involves climbing from the plain up to the crest of the first Jura hill. Mainly good stony paths.

This circular route takes you through several small villages around Nanc-lès-Saint-Amour and offers several beautiful panoramic views.

A lovely loop on the first slopes of the Jura massif, above the Bresse plain (Revermont). A largely forested route, with viewpoints and panoramas, typical villages, monuments and heritage sites.

An easy walk to discover the peaceful countryside of the Bresse Bourguignonne. The route passes through farmland, a beautiful lake, meadows and woods, finally following a small river. Here and there are scattered Bresse farms, some still in operation.PR®® (yellow) signposts all along the route.

A short hike to discover a lesser-known but no less beautiful Jura valley. The loop starts behind the church in Gizia, a small village where the Gizia river has its source. Then a fairly steep but generally shaded climb leads to the village of Le Chanelet, at the top of the 220m high cliff. The Belvédère de Chanelet offers a breathtaking view of the Bresse and Mâconnais regions.

A pleasant circular starting from Maynal, crossing the fields and pastures at the bottom of the valley, the vineyards on the sunny slopes, and the meadows and woods on the hillsides. Most of the route is shaded. Lovely views of the Bresse plain and the villages of Revermont.

Mont Myon from Pressiat, then a pretty circular through the forest to reach the Chapelle de Montfort.

This easy hike is best enjoyed in spring and autumn if you want to make the most of the second part, which is also the most beautiful: the waterfall and stream. It's guaranteed to be cool in summer, even with just a trickle of water. Amazon rainforest atmosphere before the waterfall. Moderator update on 24/09/2020: Please note! Change of route at the end of the trail, after the waterfall. To return to the car park, follow the diversion and the yellow markings.

I suggest a lovely circular route in the Revermont area, which ends at the Signal de Nivigne and Mont Myon and offers some beautiful panoramic views. There is one difficult section after the Grotte à l'Ours on a fairly steep passage (secured by ropes).

A short walk around Bény with no particular difficulties.Be careful in the Bois de Marmont, as the path running parallel to the motorway can be muddy.

Walk in the forest above the beautiful village of Arinthod, which you can also visit after your hike.

A lovely route along shaded, unmarked paths in the woods around Varessia. An easy route suitable for the whole family. Come and discover the chapel, the ridge and the Maison des Blaireaux de Varessia. The diverse forest of Varessia is home to magnificent flora and trees!

Hike punctuated by beautiful views, following the route of ancient rutted tracks. Passage at the Pierre Énon.

Starting from Saint-Hymetière-sur-Valouse, I suggest you take a short walk through the Petite Montagne region. This route, which is fairly easy overall, takes you to the Montcresson viewpoint before returning via the Saint-Laurent Chapel and the village of Chisséria.

The village of Saint-Laurent-la-Roche is located in the Revermont hills and boasts a listed church, viewpoints over the Bresse Jura, a waterfall and fountains.

Starting from the picturesque medieval village of Treffort, I suggest a lovely route through Revermont, taking in a few viewpoints along the way. The main difficulty is the length of the route: see the Practical Information section.

A family walk that allows you to discover the Montorient site by crossing the village of Geruge. The return journey is along the ridges, where the path crosses a pasture with superb views of La Bresse.

Walk around the ponds of Montrevel-en-Bresse.

Surrounded by waterways, Louhans, of Burgundian origin, means "pleasant place by the water". Over the centuries, the town has developed thanks to trade. The medieval town has preserved its main street with 157 arcades, one of the longest in France. On Monday mornings, there is a large market, including a poultry market.

This route takes you around the Grand Lac de la Plaine Tonique. It is a family-friendly route that does not cross any roads. Green signpost No. 1 is clearly visible.

Descending from the nearby Jura mountains, the Suran has a peaceful valley where water flows abundantly. It has a very active underground course between Chavannes and downstream from Meyriat. The Suran can disappear for much of the year. This route, which runs alongside much of this watercourse, starts on a quiet tarmac road and then, from the hamlet of Corcelles, continues on unpaved paths or through the woods. The route is marked in yellow.

A lovely hike with beautiful scenery at the Col des Justices and the view of Rosy Castle. A pleasant hike despite its difficulty in certain sections.

A lovely walk with beautiful views. The walk is far from monotonous, with varied terrain (grass, earth, stones, tarmac). Take the time to admire the scenery and the various hamlets.

A beautiful view of the Chartreuse de Sélignac from the cliff overlooking it. A charming route along the surrounding wall by the river. Very passable paths. However, in wet weather, the route along the walls can be a little soggy. No problem in dry weather. A picturesque circular route.

Second stage of the Way of St James. A route offering beautiful views of Lake Coiselet and Lake Conflans, taking us through a few small hamlets and across woodland.

A hike for those who like to climb high. Right from the start, you can enjoy the view over the Bresse plain, with a view stretching as far as the Burgundy coast.

This hike begins with a steep climb, rewarded by numerous panoramic views of Lake Coiselet. It continues along a pleasant ridge with beautiful views and ends with a visit to the ruins of the medieval castle of Oliferne, which offers a 360° view, before descending back to the starting point.

A pleasant, easy circular walk, mainly through woodland. The charming church of Saint-Maurice-d'Échazeaux (or des Chasaux), which overlooks the confluence of the Valouse and Ain rivers, and the ruins of Montdidier Castle are worth exploring.

A pleasant hike in the hills above Lons-le-Saunier. You will pass a completely isolated wash house, climb up to the Belvédère de Montaigu, descend into the middle of the Val de Sorne golf course, and walk along paths accompanied by birdsong and the sound of flowing water. This is a well-marked and well-maintained circuit with two significant climbs.

From Matefelon-Granges, I suggest you take a 11 km circular trail through the Ain Valley, then the Oignin Valley. Along the way, you will enjoy views of Thoire, the Château de Coiselet (private), the Saut de l'Oignin waterfall and its potholes, and finally the lake upstream.
