Park at Nanc-les-Trois Châteaux (Nanc-lès-Saint-Amour) next to the church, in the car park provided for hikers.
(S/E) Go up the grassy path, follow the red and white markings northwards along the laurel hedge. Cross the D3 road and continue on the small road opposite. At the end of this path, continue on the D3 to cross the village. Pass thePR® sign for "ViIlette", then "Les Acacias" and continue to the bend with a glass recycling bin.
(1) Immediately after this bend, leave the road and take the path that descends to the left. Continue to the village of L'Aubépin, ignoring two paths coming from the left. At the entrance to the village, follow the road to the right.
(2) In L'Aubépin, turn right towards the viewpoint and the chapel (signposted). After about 150 metres, take the path on the right that leads to the viewpoint (a nice place to stop for a break). Return down the same path.
(2) Once back on the main street, turn right and walk to the war memorial. With your back to the memorial, take the road marked "interdit sauf riverains" (no entry except for residents) opposite (Chemin des Buclières) and keep to the right. Follow this stony path,GR®59(red and white markings), to the road. Turn left and follow the road for about 100 metres.
(3) At the crossroads, take the first path (gravel) on the right, still on theGR®59. Head south on the marked path and ignore the paths branching off to the sides.
(4) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead on theGR®, still heading south.
(5) At the chalet (picnic area), turn right and follow both theGR®9andGR®59.
(6) At the fork, turn left onto theGR®59and leave theGR®9on your right.
(7) At the "Les Maisonnettes" signpost, continue straight ahead (south), still following theGR®59. At a fork, go right. Further on, when a path comes in from the left, turn right. At the tarmac road, turn right to go to the Belvédère de Saint-Jean (leave theGR®59going left).
(8) At the viewpoint, take the path on the right down to the village of Saint-Jean-d'Etreux. At the edge of the village, take the grassy path on the right. Then follow the road on the left and go down towards the church (at the town hall, there is a beautiful view of the Bresse region).
(9) Follow the main road to the right (north). Then leave this road and turn left onto Rue des Jolives. Go down to the left to the wash house where the tarmac ends. Continue along the path.
(10) At the T-junction, turn right onto the tarmac road. At the intersection, continue on a larger road (Route des Combasles). At the crossroads (cross hidden behind a tree), go straight on into the village of Cessia.
(11) Turn left (signs for Nanc). At the first bend, continue straight ahead (north) along a grassy path.
(12) Follow the path to the left. At the houses, turn right to reach Grande Rue. Pass in front of a wash house and then climb up in front of the castle. Turn left onto Rue de Balovre.
At the end of this road, continue in the same direction (D3) and you will come to Nanc church (S/E).
