A countryside walk around the Drennec Chapel

From the D34 Quimper–Bénodet, at a place called Le Drennec, take the D134 towards Clohars-Fouesnant. The car park is on the left after the chapel.

Orange signposting (mainly at changes of direction).

(S/E) Leave the car park on the left and follow the D134 with care; ignore the first road on the left and continue until you reach a three-way junction (with a transformer opposite).

(1) Turn left onto the small road called Allée Vibert and continue straight on, ignoring a cul-de-sac of the same name on your right. You’ll come to a junction.

(2) At the sign for Le Drennec, turn left onto a tree-lined track. Follow this track straight on, pass through a gate and reach a crossroads. Turn left and follow the small road, leaving the access to Kerangouic Farm on your left. Just before joining the D34, pass behind the Manoir du Drennec (a former 16th-century vicarage). Ignore the orange signposting which heads off to the left.

(3) At the ‘give way’ sign, keep to the right, then cross the Quimper–Bénodet road with extreme caution (no pedestrian crossing) and take the road on the left signposted ‘Manoir de Squividan’. Walk past the car park. If the grounds are open, you can visit them free of charge. Continue along the wall of the manor house. Follow this small road as it curves to the left, runs alongside a marshy area on your left and then passes through a wooded area before rejoining the D34.

(4) Turn left and follow the D34 for a good hundred metres , taking care, then turn left onto the old road, Impasse Hent Pradévez. Pass the ‘no entry’ sign and cross the D34 again , taking the same care.

(5) Turn right onto the one-way street and emerge opposite the fountain, dominated by a calvary and its Pietà (16th–late 19th century). Enter the fenced area of land to discover the chapel from the same period. Note the carvings in the tree trunks within this enclosure, which is home to magnificent beech trees: a Virgin Mary, a horse’s head (the ‘Pardon des Chevaux’ takes place on the first Sunday in July) …

Leave the enclosure, then follow the road to the left and take the small path on the left, near the washhouse, to return to the car park (S/E).

Please note that this walk mainly follows small country roads.
Extreme caution is required when crossing the D34 Quimper–Bénodet: there are no pedestrian crossings and the road is very busy, particularly in summer.

There is a bar and restaurant near the chapel.

Notre-Dame du Drennec Chapel is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays in August, in the afternoon.

Squividan Manor: the grounds are open to the public during the estate’s opening hours and days (June to September).
