Starting point: Villers-Pol pond.
(S/E) Head west to leave the pond car park. Just before the Rhonelle waterfall, take the street on the right and walk along a pond on your right. Continue along the various streets, turning left at each intersection and keeping the river more or less on your left.
(1) Cross the river via the Pont de la Varenne bridge (in the Romance language, a flat area between two hills where hares and rabbits retreat) and take the local road: view of rows of pollarded willows, which structure the landscape. Walk between hedgerows and cultivated fields (wheat, beetroot, etc.).
(2) At the intersection, turn right and continue to the Croisette crossroads.
(3) You are now at La Croisette, one of the highest points in Villers-Pol, with views over the village and Maresches. The memorial stone was erected in memory of Abbé Lehut, who was killed by the Germans in 1944. To the left of the memorial stone, take the path that runs alongside the small wood. The dirt track (Chemin de la Corvée), which is stony in places, is protected by a hedge.
(4) At the road, turn left and at the next intersection, continue on the road on the right towards Orsinval (Route de Saulchette). Along the way, you will see the Busignies farm (18th-century dovecote).
(5) In Orsinval, turn left towards the church. You will now descend towards the Rhonelle valley and then climb the path on your left, along the river. You will pass the Sainte-Geneviève Chapel (1692): legend has it that the current building was erected by a wealthy traveller who had lost his way and found his route again thanks to the small chapel that once stood on the same site.
(6) You are now at the Villers-Pol Calvary. Go down Chaussée Brunehaut on your left and take a right/left turn onto Rue de la Fontaine, formerly Rue des Viviers.
(7) Here you will find the "Fontaine Angelina", a former wash house. Turn left towards the pond (S/E).
