Description of the walk

Park in the large car park at Lascaux IV.

(S/E) Walk along the main road (Avenue de Lascaux), which gradually climbs up the hillside to a fork in the road on the left.

(1) Leave the road and take the path (GR®® 461) on the left, which cuts through the forest, then cross the road to take the road opposite, which passes in front of Lascaux II. You can see the entrance to the real Lascaux Cave on your right, through the fence. Continue along the road.

(2) Shortly after passing the "Domaine de Lascaux", take a fairly inconspicuous path on the left, marked by a post and a yellow arrow (PR®®). Follow this path, which descends gently until it meets the road below.

(3) Turn left, follow the road to a crossroads and turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

Apart from discovering the actual location of the entrance to the Lascaux cave, this short route is not particularly interesting.
However, we enjoyed it because it allowed us to walk the dogs after our visit to the Lascaux site.
We didn't meet anyone because Lascaux 2 was closed.

A short walk to add to complete the LASCAUX site. Starting on a tarmac road, the rest of the walk is more natural, LASCAUX II (picnic tables) and the passage near the entrance to the real cave makes perfect sense after spending an afternoon at the LASCAUX IV museum. It's a shame I didn't have much time to stop at the LASCAUX II site. I recommend it. There were a few people at the LASCAUX II site, but I didn't meet anyone else during this lovely little walk.
