On this tour, we come across relics of Roman culture, such as the fort in Osterburken and the beautiful historic old town in Adelsheim. We also encounter modern sculptures from time to time along the Sculpture Cycle Route.
1,250 Years of Hettingen – Hettingen Then and Now
To mark the town’s anniversary, ‘1250 Years of Hettingen’, a special project has been launched in Hettingen: old photographs, mostly from the image archive of the Buchen-based photographer Karl Weiß (1876–1956), are juxtaposed with contemporary views. These photographic comparisons, under the theme ‘Hettingen then and now’, are presented on information panels with accompanying short texts. The twelve panels in total are situated at prominent locations or significant buildings in Hettingen.
“Die Bach nab” – Three footbridges in the Elz Valley
A varied walk through the tranquil Elz Valley: from Einbach, the route follows historic paths over panoramic heights, past old mills, wayside shrines and small cultural monuments, all the way to the ‘Dreistegen’ near Scheringen. Time and again, beautiful views open up over the Wiesental valley and the stream that winds its way through the valley. Anyone who enjoys nature, history and quiet paths will find this a particularly charming route.
Westlicher Limesweg (E5) from Neckarburken to Neckarzimmern
After conquering France, the Romans advanced across the Rhine. The Odenwald Limes was built to secure the route between the Main and Neckar rivers, which were considered natural borders. Built around 85 AD, this border wall was intended to protect the Roman province of Germania Superior.
The fifth and final stage of your hike takes you along the former border line from Neckarburken to Neckarzimmern.
During this scenically and culturally enriching tour, you will pass the remains of Roman watchtowers, forts (troop quarters), bathing facilities and border fortifications. Informative boards point out the sights and provide insights into life in the former border region.

Way of St James from Bad Wimpfen to Bad Rappenau-Grombach
A short section of the pan-European Way of St James from Bad Wimpfen to Bad Rappenau.
The historical route of the Way of St James from Bad Wimpfen via Bad Rappenau towards Sinsheim is not precisely documented in the archives. However, it is assumed – and historical evidence supports this assumption – that the route followed a long-distance route dating back to prehistoric times, and that it still does so today.
Circular walk: Galgenberg – Steinerner Tisch, Bad Rappenau
This circular walk near Bad Rappenau takes you through the gentle, rolling hills of the Kraichgau region, with its vast fields, meadows and peaceful woodland sections. The contrast between open views and shady paths at the edge of the forest and within the communal woodland is particularly charming. A lovely highlight along the way is the ‘Steinerne Tisch’ (Stone Table) with its shelter – a great spot for a short break. Anyone who appreciates nature, varied trails and tranquil landscapes will find this a thoroughly enjoyable walk.

The Nibelungensteig is a certified Qualitätsweg "Wanderbares Deutschland" (Quality Trail "Hikeable Germany") that runs for 130 km in several stages, some of which are very strenuous, with a total of more than 4,000 metres of elevation gain from west to east across the Odenwald and thus through three federal states (Hesse, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg). A walk through the centre of Bad Rappenau and the parks, through the Einsiedelwald towards Bad Wimpfen, across fields and farmland, and back to the starting point.

From Bad Mergentheim to Neuhaus Castle
A real hidden gem for a tour through the lovely Tauber Valley is the town of Bad Mergentheim, with its beautiful old half-timbered houses and the historic Deutschherrenschloss (Castle of the Teutonic Knights) with its adjoining spa gardens. From here, we take a detour along the River Tauber to Igersheim, above whose rooftops, on a hilltop, stand the ruins of Neuhaus Castle. The circular route is very varied and offers an initial glimpse of the magnificent landscape and rich cultural heritage of the Tauber Valley.
The Katzensteig – an alternative to stages 5 & 6 of the Neckarsteig
The Katzensteig connects the towns of Eberbach and Neckargerach. This route, which is around 26 kilometres long, is an interesting alternative to stages 5 and 6 of the Neckarsteig and offers a mix of nature, impressive views and cultural attractions.
Neckarsteig (E5 & E6) from Eberbach via Neunkirchen to Neckargerach
Through the Neckar Valley along the Neckarsteig, a quality hiking trail (Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland) covering around 128 km from Heidelberg to Bad Wimpfen. The long-distance hiking trail can be hiked as a multi-day or day tour.
To ensure that this section remains walkable in terms of length, we have made a few adjustments to the route.
In 7 stages through the Neckar Valley from Heidelberg to Bad Wimpfen
The Neckarsteig stretches over 128 kilometres from Heidelberg to Bad Wimpfen, winding its way along the majestic Neckar River through the picturesque region of Baden-Württemberg. This route promises an unforgettable journey through a variety of landscapes, from gentle vineyards to imposing rock formations.
Along the route, you can expect challenging climbs as well as relaxed sections along the river. You can look forward to varied landscapes ranging from wooded slopes in the Neckar Valley to charming half-timbered towns and historic castles.
We have designed the sections so that you can reach every start and end point of a stage by public transport.

From Miltenberg to the Felsenmeer on the Greinberg
One of Germany’s most beautiful half-timbered gems can be found in Churfranken. The little town of Miltenberg lies right on the ‘Mainknie’ (the bend in the Main), sheltered by a huge gatehouse at the Main bridge. Perched on the mountainside is the old castle, which now shines in new splendour and houses a museum. It isn’t the only highlight on the Greinberg, as alongside the sea of red sandstone cliffs, you’ll also find relics from the Celtic era at the summit.
From Hetzbach via the Marbach Reservoir to the beautiful view at Etzean
The walk starts in Hetzbach and leads to the nearby Marbach Reservoir. Swimming enthusiasts should pack their swimwear in summer. The route takes you almost directly to the bathing spot by the lake. From the Marbach Reservoir, the path leads through the woods, up to one of the Odenwald’s characteristic open hilltops.
At the turning point, a lovely rest area with a view and a ‘bird box’ awaits the walkers. The return route takes you through the fields back to the starting point in Hetzbach.
From the Himbächel Viaduct to Beerfelden
A varied walking tour from the Marbach Reservoir – artificially created for flood protection – up to the panoramic heights of the Odenwald.
Once you reach Beerfelden at the top, the Odenwald slopes from north to south, dividing the flowing waters towards the Main and Neckar rivers.

Lemberger Tour, 3B-Land
From Bönnigheim to Michaelsberg – a stunning panoramic view over the Zabergäu, Germany’s oldest adventure park and the Lembergermeer!
The path winds its way up to Michaelsberg, past seemingly endless rows of vines, which hang heavy with grapes in summer.
Even from a distance, St Michael’s Chapel greets you – a stunning sight, surpassed only by the view once you’ve climbed the hill, which stands at just under 400 metres.
Mossautal Dragon Trail “Dorn”
There are four circular routes in the Mossau Valley, each with its own charm and marketed under the name ‘Drachenwege’ (Dragon Trails). These hiking routes have all been awarded the ‘Wanderbarer Odenwald’ seal of approval by the Odenwald Club, guaranteeing a high-quality hiking experience. The circular walks are:
"Dorn" (the circular route described here), "Fafnir", "Triumphalis" and "Saphira"
The length of each route varies between 15 and 21 kilometres, making them ideal for day hikes.
Felsengarten Tour, 3B-Land
With half-timbered houses, panoramic views of the Neckar and breathtaking gorges – discover the vineyard and rock scenery around Besigheim.
Starting in Hessigheim, the tour leads along narrow paths up into the Felsengärten and offers views across the Neckar to the medieval town church of Besigheim. Following quiet country lanes, you reach the historic old town, which, with its traditional half-timbered houses and cosy alleyways, invites you to linger. On the banks of the Neckar, through tranquil vineyards, the route takes you past the Salenkanzel back to the starting point.
