Start: The starting point is in front of the church in Limbach-Wagenschend
Getting
- By public transport - rmv.de
(S) Start on Hauptstraße in front of the church, walk to the Grüner Baum bus stop, cross Hauptstraße and turn left onto Lindenplatz.
The road slopes slightly downhill. In a right-hand bend, take the second turning on the left and continue downhill on the asphalt road.
You will reach the L525 country road, turn left and walk along the road until you come to a fork to the left. A sign points in the direction of "Hönehaus" and the path is aptly named "Römerweg" (Roman Way).
(1) After a while, you will come to the Hönehaus small fort. An information board (different design from the last three days) provides a possible explanation as to why a small fort was built here instead of a watchtower.
Continue along the forest path until you come to the L525 country road. Cross this road with caution. On the other side, it gets a little tricky (as of May 2024). There is no visible path and new plants have been planted.
Walk straight ahead for about 10 metres and then take a small bend to the right. Then continue straight ahead. In the forest, you will see a few green Ls on the trees, which you can use to orientate yourself. +
+Recommendation++ - Get out your GPS and follow the track at this point.
When you reach the edge of the forest, keep right along the fence.
(2) After a few metres, you will see a half-overgrown stone table/bench ensemble. Turn left here and continue straight ahead along the fruit trees across the meadow.
(3) At the top, you will pass an information board that briefly explains the visual connection between the watchtowers. Continue walking until you reach a T-junction with a bench. Turn left onto the paved path and walk downhill to Robern.
(4) Walk down Lindenstraße until you reach Wagenschwender Straße, turn right and continue until you reach the church. There, turn left again into Krumbacher Straße.
Follow this road until you reach Mühlenweg and turn right into it. You will leave the village and turn left before the village sign towards the sports facilities. Follow the road called Am Sportgelände until it turns into a gravel path.
(5) A few metres further on, at the end of aChristmas tree nursery, turn right into the forest. Continue straight ahead until you come to a large sandstone house on Waldstraße and continue along this road into the village of Trienz.
(6) Turn left onto Kirchenstraße, pass the church and you will come to a crossroads. Continue straight ahead downhill onto Am Grabenäcker. At the next T-junction, turn right and shortly afterwards cross the Trienzbach stream.
(7) You will come to a paved road again. Opposite, there is a place to rest (table with benches), where you can continue walking on the road to the right. At the next fork, keep left; the surface changes from asphalt to a rather loose surface. At the next fork, keep right and at the fork immediately after that, keep left. Stay on this path until a narrow trail branches off to the right. Follow this trail downhill and keep left just before you reach the bottom (continuation of the narrow trail).
(8) You will now reach the stone footbridge over the Trienzbach stream. On the other side, hike back up, reach a forest path and turn right here. A few metres further on, turn left again onto a narrow path. Follow this until you reach the next forest road. Here, turn right and then left shortly afterwards. You will emerge from the forest and follow the asphalt road to the left.
(9) At the next fork, turn right and follow this path until you reach a T-junction. Here, turn right towards Sattelbach. Walk through a farm, come to another T-junction and turn right, then shortly afterwards left again.
(10) Cross the fields to reach Sattelbach, turn left onto Fahrenbacher Straße and you will reach the bus stop "Sattelbach - Löwen". After the bus stop, you will also see the village fountain. The large bus shelter is a good place to take a short break (depending on the weather, you can also rest at the village fountain).
After the fountain, continue to the right ("Lohrbacher Straße"). At house number 39, turn left onto "Sattelbacher Pfad". Follow this paved path to the edge of the forest. There is a bench on the right, your path becomes a forest path and you walk directly to a covered rest area.
(11) Before the rest area, turn sharp left and walk a few metres until you see a signpost on your right. Turn right here and follow the red R for a while. You are now on a former Roman road.
(12) After about 400 metres, you will reach a replica of the Limes palisade, nothing earth-shattering, only about 3 metres wide. Continue on the Roman road, turn left at the next opportunity, go straight ahead across the next intersection and then follow the path to the right.
(13) You will reach guard post WP 10/59. The foundation stones of this 5 x 5 metre tower site are visible.
(14) Shortly before the end of the forest path, you will reach guard post WP 10/60 (it has two different names – the information board says "Schäbige Hecke" (shabby hedge), but on official website it is listed as "Im Schlag 11").
After the path, you will come to a forest road again. Turn right here. At the next T-junction, turn left again.
(15) At the end, you will come to another T-junction with a signpost. About 100 m uphill on the left is a shelter called "Zimmerplatz".
Turn right and then immediately right again onto a narrow path. Follow this path downhill towards Neckarburken.
(16) When you reach the bottom, you will come to a paved path and continue downhill on this path. Cross the railway tracks and turn left again before the bridge. Continue upstream along the Elz.
(17) A few metres further on, you will cross the Elz river via a stone footbridge. On the other side, head past the corner of the sports field and take a narrow path between two houses.
(E) You will come to the "Brunnenweg" and walk uphill, past the Friedenskirche church, to reach the destination of today's stage, the old town hall of Neckarburken with the Museum am Odenwaldlimes.
