Description of the walk

Park in the Sportplatz car park in Dahn (several car parks are available).

(S/E) Head towards Dahn town centre (follow the sign for Oranger Dahner Felsenpfad).

(1) Turn left, go behind the Felsengraf Steakhouse, and take a dirt path. Continue straight ahead until the next intersection. Turn right uphill and reach the top of the right shoulder with the first rock on the right. Turn right and follow the summit to a viewpoint.

(2) Continue left following the signs for "Dahner Felsenpfad".

(3) Take the path that descends to the left and takes you back to Dahn for a short while. Pass between the houses and sports fields and continue straight ahead. Return to the shade of the trees and begin the ascent to a viewpoint overlooking several giant pink sandstone formations.

(4) Continue along the path. After reaching the top, the trail turns left and descends.

(5) Access the viewpoint via a staircase, where you will find a bench for picnicking. Descend from the rock and continue following the signs for "Dahner Felsenpfad". Join a track after reaching the summit. Turn left and continue to a fork.

Continue along the track to the right. At the three-way junction, continue to the left, cross a small valley and find the start of a path on the left in the right-hand bend that follows.

Descend this path, cross the valley and follow the track on the right. At the T-junction, walk a few metres to the left and then take the path that climbs to the right. Just before another track, turn left downhill, then turn left and you will reach a refreshment stand.

(6) Continue along the track towards "Dahner Felsenpfad".

(7) At the cross-track, discover the imposing Hirschfelsen rock and continue to the left. At the four-way junction, turn left and cross the valley. Take a look at the Mooskopf rock and then the Rosskegelfelsen rock, and you will reach another four-way junction at the top. Continue to the right and then take the three-way junction to the left. Continue to a cross trail with a fountain on your right and a picnic table.

(8) Ignore the track and take the path almost opposite that branches off to the left.

(9) Discover the impressive Ungeheuerfelsen rock (Ungeheuer = monster, enormous in German) and continue straight ahead. At the track, turn right, cross the valley, follow the path opposite for a few metres, then take the next one on the left.

Continue along this path, which continues along the hillside, and join a road behind some buildings (hotel). Walk a few metres to the left, then follow the path that climbs to the right to reach the last rock of this circular route.

(10) Enjoy the panoramic view from the ladder attached to the rock. Then return to the road and follow it to the right to reach the Sportplatz car park (S/E).

Several rocks have been fitted with ladders and steps to provide access to viewpoints.

It is possible to extend this circular route by going behind the last rock (10). A path goes around it and leads back to the car park.

Worth a visit

Superb hike. Worth the trip. A must-do. It's different but just as pretty as the Colorado of Alsace (or Bitche).

The sandstone giants are superb

On the 10th we made a diversion to see Buttelfels and Lammerfelsen.
After the 7th, we headed straight back to the car park.

The car park mentioned at the start is reserved for customers. You have to continue a little further to get to the public car park. There's a descriptive table with details of the hiking routes.

Thank you to Visorandonneur for allowing us to discover this marvellous site.

The only drawback is that the route is quite hard in the direction indicated, but in the other direction the climb is slower, so I would recommend doing it in the opposite direction.

Superb route .extraordinary rocks .lots of people even during the week .it's a very touristy area .there are lots of paths to follow .simply follow the Dahner Felsenpfad which is about 13 km long with great signposts ...a bit more demanding but more complete ..it's easy to shorten or lengthen the route ..it's sometimes a bit noisy because of the proximity of the town.

It's a shame that the person who mapped out this route did it on a screen and not in real life.
As he drew straight lines, the visorando application often thought I was off the route.
But don't let that put you off, it's a great loop, especially when the sky is clear.

Lovely tour, with good opportunities for eating out and discovering and enjoying the local cuisine.
Recommended outside the main tourist periods.
