Departure from the ancient Forum of Bavay.
(S/E) With your back to the museum, walk along the Ancient Forum to the end, then take Rue de Glattignies to the left, then take the first right. At the end, turn left.
(1) At the stop sign, turn right and then immediately left onto Route d'Hon. Leave Bavay and go under the bridge.
Be careful on this bend and turn left. Continue straight ahead on Chemin du Tonkin.
(2) After the bends, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead on Chemin Delmer. At the stop sign, turn left. At the next intersection, keep right towards Rue du Muguet in the direction of the church.
Head left towards the Torsion sculpture. Be careful and stop on the right like the locals.
(3) Turn left onto Place Robault and continue straight ahead on the D305, Rue des Martyrs. Take the first right (D524) after the bus shelter onto Rue des Lilas towards Bellignies.
(4) At the crossroads, turn right towards Bellignies. Continue for 100 metres and turn left onto Chemin de Bréaugies. At the fork near a farm, turn right and keep to the right. The Bréaugies watering hole is on your right. Continue along the path.
(5) At the "give way" sign, turn left onto the D224 until the next crossroads.
(6) Turn right onto Rue du Stade and enter Bellignies.
(7) At the stop sign, make a first turn left then right and take Rue de la Place opposite.
(8) At the crossroads, continue along Rue de la Place until the next three-way junction.
(9) Turn right to make a circular towards Les Vannes, Rue du Moulin. At the next crossroads, turn right again towards the campsite.
You will arrive at a spot that is ideal for taking a break.
Head towards Les Vannes, walk alongside a tennis court and you will reach Rue de la Place. Turn right onto Rue du Détour.
(9) Continue left towards Gussignies/Musée du Marbre.
(10) At the star-shaped crossroads, continue almost opposite, onto Rue Virginette.
(11) Turn left onto Vieux Chemin de Bavay, immediately after the sign marking the entrance to the municipality of Gussignies.
(12) Then take the dead-end road on the left, Chemin Royal. Don't worry, there is a way out!
Go past the square and take the first right, Rue Émile Sohier. After the town hall, turn right onto Vieux Chemin de Bavay.
(12) At the crossroads you passed earlier, continue along the same route, Vieux Chemin de Ravay, then turn right at the stop sign onto Rue Virginette. You will reach the star-shaped crossroads.
(10) Leave the route you took on the way there and climb the Côte du Mayeur, which is difficult but not very long. Continue straight on Rue de la Chapelle.
At the monument, continue straight on Rue du Château.
On your left, walk along a brick wall for several hundred metres, imagining behind it a private property: the Château de Bellignies.
(7) After the castle, turn right towards Bettrechies, Rue du Stade.
(6) At the next T-junction, turn right onto the D224, Rue de Bettrechies.
__Be careful on this busy road._
(13) Continue straight on Rue de Bavay, go under the bridge and continue straight on Rue Croqu'Âne.
(14) Turn left onto Rue Gillette, in front of the Muse Salomé. Stop safely if you wish to admire it more closely.
On Place de Bettrechies, you can see the fountain on your right.
(15) Turn left onto Rue Saint-Waast. Pass the chapel, which you will see behind you on your right.
(16) At the fork, turn left and then right at the next fork.
When you see the poplar trees, keep an eye out on your right for a boundary marker on Route de Bettrechies. A few metres further on, you will see a second one.
(17) At the Perche Rompue stop sign, turn left. Continue straight on Rue de la Perche and leave La Flamengrie. Continue straight on Rue du Vieux Chemin and after the blockhouse, turn left onto Rue de Bettrechies, towards La Tour au Bois.
(18) When you reach the porch of a beautiful farmhouse, turn left for a round trip to La Tour au Bois, which is on the right.
Retrace your steps.
(18) Back at the farm, turn left onto the path that is closed to motor vehicles. Take Chemin du Moulin and then Chemin du Bucq.
At the church of Saint-Waast La Vallée, continue left on Route Nationale and at the next intersection, follow the road on the right.
(19) At the three-way junction, turn right again onto Chemin des Boules, towards Château de Rametz, then continue right onto Chemin du Pissotiau.
(20) At the Pissotiau crossroads, turn left onto Rue du Pissotiau. At the roundabout, turn left towards Château de Rametz and continue straight ahead.
(21) At the crossroads, turn left onto Rue de la Gare, D942. Be careful at the traffic lights. Keep right towards Bavay town centre.
At the give way sign, turn right onto Rue des Remparts towards the ancient forum and finally turn left onto Rue de Gommeries to return to the museum (S/E).
