Description of the route

Starting from the Belgium/France border, Rue de la Frontière in Mons.

(S/E) Continue into France along Rue Michel Delcroix in the commune of Hon-Hergies; ignore the first road on the right and proceed to the junction with a chapel on a central island (Chapelle Sainte-Philomène).

(1) Continue straight on Rue Michel Delcroix; at the next four-way junction, carry on straight until you reach a ‘Give Way’ sign at a Fork in the road.

(2) Turn right uphill onto Rue Gaston Genarte. At the war memorial, veer left and continue for a few metres to reach the next junction.

(3) Turn left onto Rue Maxime Ansieau and cross the Hogneau stream.

(4) At the Fork in the road, turn right onto Rue Maxime Ansieau, then at the four-way junction, continue straight ahead onto Rue du Tonkin. Follow this road straight on until you reach a crossroad.

(5) Turn left onto Chemin Delmaire, then immediately right onto Rue d’Hon. Go under the road bridge and join the D2649 at Bavay.

(6) Turn right at the Porte de Valenciennes roundabout, go round it and take thethird right (D24), Rue de Valenciennes, and continue straight on. Pass the Bavay Ancient Forum site on your right and join Rue Jordanez, which branches off to the right.

(7) Follow this and immediately turn left onto Rue Saint-Maur. Pass the square where the Brunehaut Column stands and turn right onto Avenue de Louvignies.

(8) At the end of the street, turn left onto the D932 then immediately right onto Rue des Allées.

(9) At the fork in the road (war memorial), continue left onto Rue des Allées, pass Louvignies church on your left and follow Rue de Fréhart. Cross the railway line and continue along Rue Émile Bourcelet. You will reach the Col du Long Buisson.

(10) At the junction, turn right onto Chemin d’Audignies. At the first four-way junction, go straight ahead; at the second, turn left and follow Rue Magdeleine to the end.

(11) At Chemin des Vaches, turn right and, a few metres further on, left onto Rue d'Obies, which soon becomes Rue de la Wiarde. At the end, turn left onto Grande Place.

(12) At Obies church with its war memorial, turn right. Follow Route d’Obies and enter the Mormal Forest.

(13) Cross the Sambrette bridge and head for the junction (Carrefour du Cheval Blanc) near the Auberge du Coucou.

(14) Just after the inn, turn right onto Route Forestière du Chemin Planté and continue straight on until you reach the crossroads by the restaurant "Le Godelot".

(15) Take thesecond road on the left, Route Forestière d'Hecq à Hargnies. Cross the railway line and continue to the end of the straight stretch.

(16) Continue straight ahead on Route d'Hecq à Hargnies until you reach the Stop sign.

(17) Cross the D33 with care and continue straight on, along Route d'Hecq à Hargnies, until you reach the stop sign at the D233.

(18) Turn left and take thefirst tarmac turn-off on the right, Route Forestière de Preux.

(19) Follow this road, which is closed to all motor vehicles.

(20) At the four-way junction (picnic tables), turn left onto Route du Pont Routier. Continue straight ahead, pass Carrefour David, cross Route de Landrecies and head towards the railway line.

(21) Immediately after, turn left onto Route des Étoquies, cross the railway line again and continue straight on.

(22) Opposite the road bridge, turn right, take the roundabout and exit onto the4th road (D934), Avenue de la Légion d'Honneur. Cross the railway line, then cross the Sambre Canal bridge and turn immediately right onto Quai du Pont Rouge.

(23) At the marina, continue along Rue Vauban then Boulevard des Résistants. At the roundabout, take the2nd exit, Rue Turenne, and at the end, turn right onto the D160, Rue de la Folie.

(24) Cross the Rivierette and you will come to a Fork in the road at the corner of a red-brick house (the house where Louis XIV spent a night following a flood).

(25) Turn left and continue to a four-way junction.

(26) Continue straight ahead onto Route de Beaurevoir, ignore Chemin du Petit Versailles on the right and carry on straight until you reach a crossroad.

(27) Turn left onto Rue Verte and head towards Catillon-sur-Sambre.

(28) At the D643, turn left towards La Groise onto Avenue de la Groise. At the roundabout, continue straight ahead (D643) and, a few metres further on, take thefirst turning on the right.

(29) Turn right onto Route du Bois de l'Abbaye and continue straight on along this main road.

(30) At Bois de l'Abbaye, carry on straight ahead on the same road until you reach a T-junction.

(31) Turn left, still on Chemin du Bois de l'Abbaye, then the road becomes Rue de l'Ermitage.

(32) At the D946, turn right and then immediately left onto the D66, Rue de l'Abbaye, and head for the church car park in Fesmy-le-Sart (E).
